Good afternoon,

For about 6 months now I have been using my brother's Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro headphones, which have been immense. However he's now back in the country and wants them returned..

Can anyone recommend a similar pair of headphones for gaming? I am happy to spend anywhere between £50 and £100 - I would get the same pair, however I would ideally like a a microphone, which the Beyerdynamic's don't come with.

I've been tempted by the following Corsairs as they look like they could be just as comfortable, however I am concerned they won't match the quality of the 770 Pros since they are less than half the price:

So to sum up:

-Has anyone used the above Corsairs and can you recommend them?
-Can anyone suggest headphones with a mic that are on par with the Beyerdynamics?
-Comfort and audio quality are key :)

Are a pair of DT770 Pros and a cheap clip-on mic really not an option?

This really.

If you're used to the comfort and sq of the DT770s then you're going to be disappointed with a relatively cheap 'gaming' headset.

£3 or so for a clip-on mic or a bit more for the Logitech desktop mic which I use and it's brilliant.

Ah, genius, thanks. Never considered a clip-on mic, will have a wee look at them.

Although if anyone has tried the Corsairs, it would still be great to hear if they are comfy and how they sound.

Audio Technica ATH-PRO700MK2 they are £124 though could look at shure srh840 available for £100 b stock somewhere brand new just damaged packaging.
Audio Technica ATH-PRO700MK2 are getting a lot of love on headfi at the moment they are like a better version of M50's..If you are looking for a bargain get creative aurvana live (they are rebadged denon 1001) and around £50 goldring dr150 are good too around £50.

For gaming I like the Sennheiser PC163D or 333D - won't quite have the quality of the DT770s but they are pretty decent and good mic for voice stuff - the 333D have a nice feature where the mic auto mutes when rotated into the rest position - the 163Ds are incredibly comfortable for long useage and the 333D aren't too bad tho not as light - sound quality is pretty tight on both - head and shoulders above your average gaming headset - the 163Ds lose a bit of "punch" to the bass due to open design but have very vibrant and detailed bass, neither quite have as "sparkling" high range as better quality audiophile headphones but still very acceptable there and mid-range is well balanced and detailed.

Coming from the DT770s to the corsair or similiar headphones like logitech, creative, plantronics, etc. will be a bit of a shock tbh you will lose a lot of definition/detailing in the sound.

PC360's, £100 on the bay.

And probably fake.

Buy the DT770s from a trusted online retailer and add the Speedlink clip mic; you know you like the DT770s already so why go for anything else? Just bare in mind new they'll sound different to what you're used to as they require 100 odd hours of use before the cones are moving fluidly.

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll have a look at reviews for some of those gaming headsets. If I'm not hugely swayed, I'll get another set of DT 770's and a wee clip on mic.

Auraomega, do you recommend the Speedlink clip mic above others? And I forgot all about breaking the headphones in, I may just give my brother the new set :P

For the price the mic is really good from everything I've read on here. I have one myself but I don't have any others to compare to so I'm going on others opinions here.

As for burn-in, they don't sound bad but the treble was really harsh at first and mellowed out after a while, once you've used them for a week or so they'll sound just as awesome as what you're used to.

Alright, thanks for all your input. I think I'm going to try a clip on mic with a new set of the DT 770s since I know that I like how they sound and feel. The PC 360s do look rather excellent though.

I wish there was an audio shop where you could try on all sorts of headphones before buying..

according to that guy on head fi the Audio Technica ATH-PRO700MK2 smash dt770's to bits and he owns both.

Hmm, I may just have to continue my research then. And I shall check a few review sites, I don't usually rely on a single opinion. I wonder if I could send back headphones simply because I don't like them. Anyone have experience with doing that?

Yes, there are online retailers that allow you to open the headphones, use them and return them because you dislike the sound. I have done this once before with no issues.

There is a lot of hyperbole on Head-Fi.

I agree but the guys posting pics of those together with the m50's etc so I give him benefit of the doubt.http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread...view-take-two-subwoofers-straight-to-the-head
The dt770 do need an amp to shine.

I did own the DT770 pro's and the DT770 32ohm. The MK2's destroy both of them.

I mean I can't comment on the Pro700MK2 as I've not heard them, but statements like "smash to bits" if those were his words are always an exaggeration. They are probably just different and one suited his preferences more than the other.

Was his review related to gaming or music performance though? If the Pro700MK2 is anything like the M50, they'd suck for gaming.

EDIT: Actually I did read that review before. Classic example of head-fi hyperbole! What exactly does "destroy" mean? lol

Maybe I'll get a pair just to see, but it just reminds me of the M50 reviews I read before buying that. People love to exaggerate with their new toys.

I know what you are saying words and statements like that make him sound like some kid, just throwing it in there as maybe the mk2 are really that good and warrant further investigation.

If I wasn't trying to clear out my inventory rather than add to it, I'd definitely like to see how they perform for BASS.

Anyone want to buy my DT770 Premium 32ohm? lol
