The frame rate is constantly at 100 or roundabouts but it stutters at the start of every game i have. Yes my hard drive is fully defragged with diskkeeper

You do tend to get a little stutter BUT thats just at the very start of the game or if you come back into it from say alt tab'n out ...

its shouldnt though really. Its an oldish game now and just a poorly coded (but still amazing) game. They need to actually make a usefull patch that gets rid of the stuttering and makes the multiplayer game selection screen decent like games such as soldier of fortune 2

make sure your connections in game are on 256 as any other settings give you stutter as well also make sure you have no internet programs on like torrents, you say your frame rate is 100 so it sounds like its a connection problem

I ussually get stuttering when i first play a map but i think its just the program requesting more memory, after that its fine.

If your ping seems ok, try alt-tab'ing to windows and ctrl-alt-del to check what resources are being used, you may have a few other programs hogging memory.

had a lot of weird sturttering/lag with vista, never found a solution, had to fall back to xp

sry cant be of more help

I think rhymin has hit the nail on the head here, It don't like vista. I've read that the drivers for 64bit vista are flakey at the best of times.

I'm dual booting between XP pro and vista 32bit and all games run better in XP, including the ones designed to run on vista (according to the box).

It's the same old story going from 1 OS to another. The amount of my win98 games that didn't work on win2k and XP.

It's your system & the way you have set it up.
Sorry but i am sick of people who cannot set there own machine up blaming BF2.
I have played since day one and have around 2000 hours logged, yes 2000 hours. Starting on a 3200xp 1 gig & a 9800xt, & through another system & on to my current 939 AGP set up. Never have i had Any stuttering.
The Vista issue is down to the icon or summit, apparently you have to reconfigure your Exe. file via the icon.
Google BF2/Vista/stuttering issue for the fix as i can't be arsed to search for other people.

But not everyone has the knowledge to set up the perfect gaming machine, that's why they come on the forum's asking for help.....

Some people enjoy helping others out........

It's a badly coded game - nuff said.

Probably quite true, when people with top spec rigs keep having problems.

The only issue i have with BF2, is horizontal tearing after going over to a dvi cable for my monitor. just havn't made the time to look at the vsync options in BF2 yet.

Yet it runs fine for most players, even players with really low end gfx cards.

they have low fps but no stuttering, if you have a good pc you will not have any problems with BF2 unless you put dynamic shadows and lighting on (which just hog fps) and they are not needed. It's actually easier to play without them for infantry and vehicles, no shadows for enemies to hide in. :)
