BF2 Worth it?

Just got my new PC and am looking for a MP FPS. I played BF2 a few months ago and really enjoyed it but i have read many posts on here stating its dying.

Is it worth getting it now? If not what would you recommend (other than CSS)

Depends what you're into.

If it sci-fi then try Halo 2, any of the Quakes, Unreals etc, I think there is a new Unreal on the way.

If it's WWII then try Red Orchestra, DOD:Source, MOH, COD etc, there's loads out there.
 
Good good i will get it then.

Can pick it up pretty cheap anyway.

I have so far been playing COD2 but find the amount the grenades get chucked about ridiculous.

I Prefer the modern day games really although I was brought up on Quake so when ET:QW comes out i will probably get involved in that.

ill vouch for americas army, for a free game you cant ask for more :)

although havent played in ayear or so that probably makes my above statement void, but i did used to play it a lot
 
buy it if you can spare the cash, still a good game, yes its got less players but that also means less idiots ... and buy 2142 and day of defeat source
 
BF2 still has plenty of people and the big mods are starting to come out now aswell, though unfortunately they tend to have a rather small fanbase due to the lack of stats. If you like BF2 then for the price, and how much you'll get out of it, it's a bargain.

Personally the game just annoys me with some of the design choices.
 
You can pick up the BF2 + all the addon's pack now for just over the £20 mark ... though you wont go wrong with BF2142 either if you prefer a more futuristic look ... as for DoD:S ... good game also if your into your Steam based games.
 
I have BF2 and BF2142. I find BF2142 takes the best elements of BF2 and improves on all the bad parts of it...such as laggy interfaces, awful secondary weapons for engineers, rockets going through vehicles...

BF2142 is just a much improved version of BF2. Get tbh.
 
Bf2142 is a great game, the game mechanics and graphics are much improved over BF2, but too many of the maps are dull and it doesn't seem to have the undefinable quality that made BF2 great, just a little on the bland side... BF2 is still lots of fun but it's hard to find a decent game unless you like jalalabad or karkand.
 
Interesting thread. I just finished my exams and picked up 2 copies of bf2 for £25. I gave one to my brother in law and we play online using ventrillo to communicate. Coming from a CS background I find it quite good, very addictive, and I love the stats. Only another 14 hours to play till my next rank upgrade! :D
 
BF2142 is good, but imo BF2 is way better BF2 is a few years old now but is a fun game to play It took me a long time to start to kill more than I died, around 80hours Id say, but now i ace online FPS games :D hence my 1.7 KD ratio on bf2142. play bf2 you'l enjoy it
 
Younger players are more likely to like BF2142 more than BF2.
In 2142 flying is much easier but also means limited maneuvers.
Walking,running speed is much slower, oh! the strafe going from one way to the other is like saying shoot me you cant miss
You can not steer your chute.

Weapons change is much slower [sitting duck mode]& throwing a grenade is so slow the other side laughs knowing the round is likely to be over before that hits the ground & goes off.
You also need to empty more rounds into someone to kill them meaning you are most likely to be a [sitting duck] with not enough ammo in the clip for the next guy if he is on to you needing a reload[sitting duck mode again]
You really need to be in a good squad to stop getting killed allot because changes are to slow for a potentiality skilled fast reflex lone player, not that alone player cant do well & come first but you need to be on a map or mode suited for it. like on the titian or camp gib.
In other words BF2142 for most part is set up for tit for tat killing. a player with high skill can easily be taken down by a lesser skilled player because of the games limitations with doing everything slowly.
