BF3 Beta FPS thread

Doesn't quite work like that, at least as far as i know crossfire has the same limitation as SLI in this respect. If you have 2 cards with 1GB vram, you have 1gb vram that can be used, and that's it.

Well both sets of VRAM are used. It's just that the same stuff has to be mirrored on both cards so the cards can work together.

It wouldn't work very well if something one of the cards needed to was on the other card's vram.

At least that's what I believe I interpreted from anand's articles when crossfire first came out.

Everyone keeps talking about with Vsync enabled, for me it does nothing, can ppl who thinks it works post a screen of it on and off plz.
This is with Vsync on :P

Both at stock settings.

I set my BF3 to Ultra last night on 1280x1024 (I need a new monitor) and it runs smooth. I didnt check the FPS, but it was easily playable. I could notice a slight difference performance wise from the reccomended settings (high).

I'd probably keep my settings at high though for a more consistent performance, but its nice to know it can handle Ultra!

Did you change your FOV to 90? I suggest you do that if you haven't already, thats how the game is meant to be played

So what the conclusion then with GPU performance hits?

VRAM? Crossfire? BETA? Drivers? Or its just another Crysis thats built for hardware to play this game after no-one cares anymore?

BETA, xfire users seem to have some issues, drivers should be better optimised by release.

vrams only generally an issue for those of us with huge resolutions above the standard 1920x1080

Certainly runs fine on todays hardware, just a few kinks to work out for the above reasons.

I have a feeling its BETA/Drivers issue. Crysis 2 looked a lot better than this but didn't stutter/freeze for me. Hoping they work on the Beta and not just let it run until the 10th

I'll test without Crossfire later tonight and see A) whether it runs well and B) whether it cures the big stutter. I'm inclined to think it's driver related as if it was VRAM surely the performance decrease would be more linear? I'm not sure how modern cards work but I can't imagine they start replacing certain bits of texture memory once loaded?

Good thinking, I'll try disabling crossfire tonight too. Its just a case of going into ccc and unchecking crossfire right?

Core i5 750 @ 3.8GHz
Radeon 6950 2GB @ 880/1350MHz (got room to overclock this yet)

2560x1440, FOV set to 95, Settings on High, Vsync off.

I'm getting 35-40 fps at the moment, everything seems smoother than before for some reason.

vRAM usage went down from 1.75GB to 1.25GB too. I guess the game needs a restart after applying new settings.

Dude can you run the game at 1680 * 1050 with those same settings and let me know the fps, Im thinking of getting a 6950. Do you get the stuttering/freezing?

So should I stick with my 5970 hitting 37-70FPS (outside) hoping that performance will improve in the form of drivers or final version. I need/must run this game maxxed 50FPS+, or should I upgrade to be sure?

Nope! How do I change the FOV?

Change the FOV by going to My Documents > Battlefield 3 Open Beta > settings right click on PROF_SAVE_body, open with notepad++
on line 3, the first text is "70.000000". change that to what you want. Mine is on 90.000000

Dont use Notepad to edit this file, it has to be a HEX editor like Notepad++
