BF3 Beta FPS thread

Nope Im on a 22" 1680 * 1050 and getting around 80fps average, never drops below 60. Both 5850s are at stock. I happy with the framerate but want to play at Ultra/High settings, I think the only way is to sell my 5850s and get a 3GB GTX580, but IM holding fire until the final release as it may be better optimised

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think you need a 3GB GTX 580 to play at that resolution. You'll probably ok with a single GTX570?

Could be but I wanna future proof myself, Im planning on getting a bigger monitor that does higher resolutions next year. I'm gutted, I was so proud of my 5850 CF setup but not being able to play BF3 Beta at High settings and with not even any AA is a kick in the teeth :(

I'm getting about 45fps running around @ 1680 on a GTX280@stock. Drops to 20 occasionally.
It seems unclear which cards are getting 60fps min in this game?

I found the 11.10 drivers didn't increase my FPS, it just made it much more stable. I don't understand how I'm able to get better results than people with better hardware!?

Didn't upload a full res version of this yet, but at everything set to high except textures which was set to Ultra, 2X AA and 4x AF @ 1680x1050 I was getting over 100 FPS indoors in Metro and outside it was around 50fps average.

really every current gen card could possibly hit 60fps, its just people like boasting so they wont put it anything below ultra, and really that makes no difference whatsoever during beta...

Are you getting stuttering/freezing issues after about 15mins gameplay?

that screen shot doesnt really justify anything as youre not actually in any action, so of course the fps will be high, my 580 hits 85+ frames on 1080 in the tunnel area when theres nothing happening around me...

I think the lowest I saw was high 30's with everything set to ultra, though as many people have said, it was very smooth indeed. It felt more like a low of 130's. :)

Dual gpu set ups seem to be struggling more at this stage, but this will be ironed out sooner or later.

So is there a way to enable console? How do you even set the FOV? It feels like about 60 default! Any way to show fps in game, natively, other than press CTRL+ALT+S occasionally?

Also, coming from other FPS games, it is a nightmare to even make out the models in this. Lots of dying :(

Change the FOV by going to My Documents > Battlefield 3 Open Beta > settings right click on PROF_SAVE_body, open with notepad++
on line 3, the first text is "70.000000". change that to what you want. Mine is on 90.000000

Dont use Notepad to edit this file, it has to be a HEX editor like Notepad++

If it's set to 70 then obviously setting it higher is the only way to go. :)

I thought it was like BFBC2 and had a vertical FOV in settings.ini.

When I look at this thread it seems that people who are comparing results are really ignoring that they run different resolutions.
One screams oh I don't get how I get such great performance and you don't with the same hardware, well if you are running 1680x1050, that's something different than 1920x1080/1920x1200, specially 2560x1400 or even higher. Keep in mind a graphics card will tend to struggle more at higher resolutions.

So the FOV in PROF_SAVE_body is horizontal? Im confused, why does this: http://www.rjdown.co.uk/projects/bfbc2/fovcalculator.php say set the FOV to 65 for 1680 * 1050?

This is a vertical FOV setting for BFBC2 since that game uses it in the settings file.

Your horizontal FOV will depend on the aspect ratio and vertical FOV in game.

BF3 appears to use the more common horizontal FOV value in the settings file which allows you to use the precise FOV you want without having to convert if from the vertical one.

Thats pretty much what I get deluxe, exactly the same spec apart from the GTX 580. Mine is stock, not overclocked.

You should put aniosotropic filtering on 16x, it hardly uses any resources.
