BF3 Beta FPS thread

I play at 2560x1600 with ultra settings, I get 60fps no more no less it's 60. Vsync on

Gtx 480 sli Overclocked.

Not sure if my results are a bit crappy or not, as others are getting better fps than me average in higher resolutions with slower gen cards.

These are mine in Metro outside in 1680x1050 with all graphics on default High 16x AF etc using catalyst 11.7:

Frames
3478
Time (ms)
63992

Min
40
Max
75
Avg
54.351

I think when I get my new monitor that either does 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 then that's really gonna hurt it a bit more. :(

But regarding how well it plays, it plays smooth as silk. I have had not stuttering or fps 'lag' - it has been pretty consistent and hasn't had many major dips in performance. But yeah, give it time, with the more demanding maps yet to come.:p:(

11.10 is needed for BF3. Surprised it even works as I got instant program crashes on 11.8.

I sometimes get a big stutter after a while, usually very infrequent. The 11.10 seemed to calm it down a little bit. Isn't it to do with VRAM?

Also I think the lowest FPS I got indoors was about 60/70 on a 20/30 populated server.

Yes all us who have 1GB cards are getting this problem. Lower the shadows to low and turn off AA stops the stuttering. What settings are currently playing at?

I'm getting this same stuttering.

I'm running 2 x 6870's, when running a single card I get no such issue?

What's the deal?

Oh really!? Then maybe its not a VRAM issue afterall, since the 6870 have 2GB. Could it be a driver/this is a beta issue afterall, I hope so then I can keep my 5850s :) We need to get to the bottom of this.

Use MSI Afterburner Beta 2.2 and see what your VRAM usage is. Mine goes to around 1900 when I see the stuttering.

I have everything on high except textures which are Ultra, 2x AA and 4x AF.

I'll try dropping the settings a little, I daren't disable Xfire as I don't think a single 5770 will cope very well ;)

My 6870 only has a 1g of vram, but then 2x 6870 = 2gb.

But like I say, when I disable crossfire I don't get this issue, it seems to only be with crossfire enabled.

I spent so much time and money to get crossfire working, and now it doesn't work :D

To be expected tho! Beta and all that :)

You should try to disable xfire, just to test if the stuttering goes.

Mine actually runs better with a single 6870 that with 2 :/

Doesn't quite work like that, at least as far as i know crossfire has the same limitation as SLI in this respect. If you have 2 cards with 1GB vram, you have 1gb vram that can be used, and that's it.

Oh, weird.

But even so, if its running ok on a single card, that is only with 1gb ram.

Same settings, but in crossfire, I get stutter, that shouldnt take up any more ram surely?

Im beginning to think the stuttering isnt a vram issue but more to do with drivers and this is a beta release. Dead Island ran perfectly fine for me on CF and thats a graphically intense game.

Could be a crossfire driver bug, this is why i dislike multi gpu solutions, they're so damn flakey and never give garunteed performance increases across all games.

I've not read back but are you using the ATI BF3 specific beta drivers? might be worth testing the last driver as well.
