BF3 Beta FPS thread

The nvidia 560ti competes with the 6950 very well. In most cases it's cheaper too

yes...but if you unlock to 6970? vs 560ti? I'd say the unlocked 6950 (6970) will do better...

according to this: http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/159

HIS and MSI are doing well too, so what about:

found a HIS on a competitor sire with 189.68 £
HIS 6950 Fan 2GB GDDR5 Dual DVI Dual Mini DisplayPort HDMI PCI-E Graphics Card Dirt3 Edition

- 2GB GDDR5 Memory
- 800MHz Core Clock
- 5000MHz Memory Clock
- Fan Cooling Solution

I don't care about the games that come with the card, as I'm mostly interested in BF3, DiabloIII and Gwuild Wars2

I would like to stick close to 200£ witht he card...

I don't want to highjack this thread, so in short: 6950 (hopefully unlocked to 6970) , 560 or 570 , will do the trick for BF3?

not extreme quality, but decent, and decent frame rate, at 1920x1080

Is this realistic?

I was thinking to try BF3 first on my GTX 260 and then upgrade if needed...but I don't think I'll be able to play it at all on 260...

Not all 6850s can unlock to 6970s so don't count on that, get the GTX 570 to be sure you will be able to play the game the way you want to.

p.s. HIS is subsidiary of Powercolor so stay away! Their after sales/warranty process is terrible

/\ Game runs very well on pretty much all setups when in a jet or helicopter. Better to test it down on the ground around the forests and zooming in the distance with a sniper/scope.

Not with that GPU you don't, the guy above gets avg 60fps with SLI 480's. Run the benchmark and make sure after you apply the Ultra settings that you exit the game and restart it.

Hi I'm getting strange performance on Caspian's border. I've got a Q6600 oc to 3.0 ghz 4 gig or ram and a gtx 580 lightning. I get about 35 to as low as 20 fps, I've oc to 3.4 ghz and tryed running at 2.4 ghz (stock) but it makes no difference. Ive installed latest drivers for chipset and soundcard, and i have the latest beta drivers installed for bf3. It must be a cpu bottleneck coz i get 90% cpu uasage and around 30% gpu usage. But the only thing that has got me stumped is that if it was a cpu bottleneck why do i see not much performance gain from 2.4 to 3.4?

i5 2500K @ 4.5ghz

8GB Corsair RAM

2x6950 2GB's MSI OC.

All ultra / Maxed out.

Managing around 70fps when out in Caspian border, However close combat and driving through fire is around 30fps. To be honest I can't notice the 'slowdown' in fps and I think I'm averaging around 35 - 45fps on that setup above. Metro seems to be rock solid around 50fps though ! :).

edit: However today I have been getting either blue or sometiems green flashes when running or driving fast. VERY annoying. Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this ? Usually have large amounts of screen tearing during some bits as well.

I have just replaced my old GTX260 with a GTX480, out of curiosity, I tried the 260 with my sig spec, it was laughable.

<15fps @ low! - its abysmal.

By comparison, my GTX480 mullers romps through the beta with no issues for me.

Ditch the 260.

the fps is correct like it or lump it i dont care
btw the 480 guy is running dx11

DX11 doesn't improve frame rate that much. I don't believe that even with a mixture of high and ultra that you can get an average of 67fps at 1920x1080, when people with SLI 480's are getting just 60fps at almost the same resolution and slightly higher settings.

Unless you are looking at your feet. Play a full round of CB, 97 seconds isn't enough. The spawn area I get around 70-80fps, go out into the middle of the map, play a round and see what you get.

What settings could I get away with at 1920x1080? Here's my full spec.

Windows 7 64bit
Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz @ 4GHz
Asus Rampage II Extreme Intel X58 (Socket 1366)
MSI Geforce 470 1280Mb GDDR5.
RAM: Corsair XMS3 6GB.
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA-II 32MB.

Wish I could get the open beta, but hey hoo.

Cheers guys

I just switched my settings to below and noticed a HUGE increase in FPS and the game still looks beautiful. 65FPS average with a 5850.

FRAPS benchmark gave me
Min Max Avg
39 111 64.784

well i just benched it again playing caspian on foot started at the forest and captured several objectives on foot not looking at my feet or the sky just playing.
i dont think dx11 gives more fps over dx10

I hope my score does not upset you too much

Low shadows, ambient occlusion off and motion blur off... Of course you're not going to be struggling for FPS with it set like that. Turn them up to what everyone else is playing at and THEN try comparing.

Well **** I wonder why. Put everythng on Ultra then play, maybe we can have a fair comparison.

I just tried it with Shadows and AA Post on Low and 2xMSAA, rest on Ultra:

Code:
Min = 26
Max = 99
Avg = 47.889

Same spec as yours but with a 6950 2Gb.

What apps/programs are you using to display FPS & GPU Temps overlayed in the game? I know you can do CTRL+ALT+S to see your FPS but you can hardly run around at the same time to get a realistic FPS

Thanks
