I would just get 2 x 7970. This should last you for a long time. It should never be vram limited and has plenty of grunt to back it up.

Common sense would dictate that at that budget you'd just buy the most expensive card available times 2 knowing that would do all you ask. After all your asking for multiple monitor support on one of the most demadnig games aailable and wanting two years future proof. Everyone knows a 560Ti isnt going to come close or a 570 or even a 580 so you didnt need to come showing off

I recently did an article pitching a GTX580 3GB vs 7970. Both overclocked editions and the 7970 was a between 10-20FPS faster in BF3, the gap widened when the cards were manually overclocked. If you want to compare a 1.5GB GTX580 against a 7970 then the situation will only get worse for NVIDIA. Those who claim the 7970 is a failure and a waste of money etc clearly have either a)never tried one or b)'green' with envy. The 7970 is the fastest single core GPU out at present and by a decent margin.

Hopefully NVIDIA will come up trumps and reclaim the crown as it is great for competition and I'm sure they will but for now, if you are in the market for a GPU the HD7970 is the best there is (save for dual core cards).

PS, there's more than just BF3 out there, it also runs Crysis 2 better than the 580.

Paul is specifically referring to BF3 at high res. Depending on which review you look at there is only a small gain over the 580 in BF3 at high settings. The below benchmark is only 25%. The above being 34%.

Paul's other point is that kepler is coming so if you are hell bent on spending £430 big ones then it would pay to wait.

The 7970 was rushed out. That's about it for failures.

The drivers were rushed and they concentrated on benchmarks rather than games (specifically older ones)

It conclusively beats the card it aimed to, which points squarely to success.

Given time (just like the 470 and 480, BTW !) it will just get better and better.

hmm im running 2560x1600 all ultra with 2xaa getting 85fps average peaking at 120fps and a min of 50fps

so guess again at what i run as you should have done your homework before presuming id waste my money on a pants gpu like you have

Wilst i agree that we cant assume nvidia will win every round, the fact that nvidia wont release anything slower than there own old gen means they will win this round FACT

I told you before, I will buy a 7970 and compare it to my gpu's in my setup, I'm that confident it will be slower in just about every situation ill give you the 7970

But how long will you have to wait for that? The 480, IMO, wasn't worth the wait for nvidia fans. It's a great card, and would've been a huge success if released next to the 5870, but it was late.

also the op wants multi screen and multi card, this doesnt play well on amd in this scenario

So for the OP the 7970 is a bad route to choose.
Maybe once amd sort the drivers out (could wait 10 years for that every time i have an amd card im always waiting for the next driver release to be dissapointed)
Also he wants the cards to last 2 years and in 12 months the support for the 7 series will dwindle meaning newer non masivly mainstream games will be left off the cf support list meaning the op is left with 1 good gpu and a brick in his case.

So for 2 years gaming waiting a month to see whats going on wouldnt be the worst result as buying 580's wouldnt be a good idea for the op either

i really think you're being a little too harsh on AMD. Many of my friends are still using older AMD cards with no issues.

i guess it would be close if the 7970 is clocked highly, but the 480's would still win.
