Big 4 now the Big 5?

Spurs fans are so fickle. Two bad games and a significant minority of the fans want Jol's head. :(

Still, people are right. Why spend £16.5mil on a bit-part striker when we so obviously need a left-winger and an experienced defensive midfielder? I can't exactly blame the club for our defensive problems at the moment (which club could win every game with 6 main defenders out?) but the problems in midfield should have been obvious.

It sounds like we tried to sign Petrov and Nani to solve the left wing but we really do need to sign someone before the transfer window closes if we're even going to come fifth again.

Klinsmann turned down Chelsea at the end of last season because his family didn't want to leave America, so i doubt he'll be in contention.

Who would replace Jol if he was sacked? Klinsmann? Jewell?

The rumours are Seville's Ramos is being lined up.

Arsenal got to the Champions league final using our 8th Choice left back :p

But you also (barely) finished 4th in the league. And I assume you had your first choice centre-back pairing for most of the season too.

Spurs are playing their 4th and 5th choice centre-backs at the moment and at least our 4th choice left-back (possibly 7th or 8th).

IIRC Senderos and Djourou were used heavily at centre back that season due to injuries. Even Gilberto had a stint in defence.

Spurs should look no further than Evertons midfield for inspiration.

People go on about Spurs midfield, but not one of them (bar maybe Lennon) is creative.

Jenas: Awful. I've stated on here before, Spurs will not win anything by using him as a starting midfielder. He can pass sometimes, but tackling, set-pieces, movement are all poor.
Zokora: He's got someone fooled, dunno who though, he's poor. He has excellent stamina but not a whole lot else.
Lennon: Fast in a straight line. Not much else.
Malbranque: Big fish in a little pond at Fulham. Found out at Tottenham.
Tainio: The invisible man of little attributes. Don't really see what he'd bring to any Premiership team that they don't have if I'm being brutally honest.
Routledge: Hit and many many misses for me, though he's looked sharper than usual at the start of the season.
Taarabt: Obviously one for the future, looks quite good.
Ghaly: Poor last season with 1 or 2 good games, obviously not in first team plans and will be sold (if someone now wants him).
Murphy: Liverpool sold him for a reason.

Everton however have Carsley, a none big name player but one of the best in his role in the Premiership. He knows his limitations and his strengths, he plays off these for a solid foundation.
The use Arteta who IMO is the best Spaniard in the Premiership, if not the best creative midfielder in the Premiership at the moment, world class yet continually overlooked by the Spanish team.
Phil Neville always came in for criticism at Man Utd by none Man Utd fans, he's shown what he can do at Everton, solid, reliable and a good passer who, like Carsley, doesn't try stuff he knows he can't do (though his first touch crossfield attacking pass against Spurs was a surprise and something special :p).
Tim Cahill is a battler who fights to get forwards, he's Everton's Frank Lampard but with more fight in him.
Osman is another solid none big-I-Am kind of player who has surprisingly bagged 2 in 2 this season, but his strength is his simplicity on the park.

Spurs are trying to do too many things with poor players. They have bought a lot of rubbish for the Midfield, Jol has done what Houllier did for Liverpool.

Nope, we were without a Left back for a long period. Clichy was pretty much out all season playing only 11 games, **** played 15. So 26 games we had a left back (that's not counting when they played together) out of at least 49 games we played that season.

What's that got to do with centre-backs? :)

That was my point. We're not just missing a left-back, we're missing two competent centre-backs too.

Exactly, that's the problem. We've got a lot of average midfielders who don't have an end product. Most of them can't tackle and most of them can't pass. Worse yet, they seem extremely reluctant to even have a go. Jenas personifies that. How many times he's got into a position to cross the ball or have a shot and then dithered? Far too many.

Lennon is creative and can do more than run in a straight line (check out his pass for Ghaly's goal last season). However, you can't rely on him every game. Especially when he's injured. :p

Huddlestone is promising, but a bit slow for the Premiership. Tarrabt is again promising but really not ready for the limelight (despite what other Spurs fans desperately want to believe). Prince-Boateng is an unknown quantity and might be the player to save us, but he's not even made the bench yet.

Bent ran his socks off for the first 60 minutes against Everton but there was hardly any service for him. He looked ineffectual but it's the midfield to blame.

Not even close.

Toure was off at the ACoN (finalist so he was gone for a while).
Campbell was injured and then later on AWOL playing with mobile phone.

As mentioned we had Gilberto playing CB for weeks because so many other defenders were unavailable too.... Cole, Clichy, Lauren, Eboue, Gilbert, Hoyte, Djourou....
