The auto pause is very accurate.
The only time it will stop when you're still moving is when you're travelling very slow (2-3mph) and you perform a very tight turn. i.e. 180 back on yourself. Even then you'll only lose a few seconds of time.

When you upload your data you'll t following times

Moving Time : The time you were actually moving
Elapsed Time: Total time including stops

Thanks for the advice I've done a bit more research and nothing comes close to the garmin 500 for 200 pounds so I have ordered it.

Re the garmins, any reason to go for 500 over the 705 that's not much more to buy but appears a huge step up?

I use runkeeper and my iPhone but at times the battery dies before the ride does - as I understand all garmins output to it?

The only reason to have the 705 is if you want to draw maps on the screen or follow pre-planned routes with a map overlay.

The 705 is massive and the way it mounts onto the bike is also pretty rubbish. Also, the 500 has a temperature reading which I find pretty useful, the 705 doesn't.

just tallied up how much i have spent on bike stuff this month £1025.67:eek: and it is only the 9th.

i have one thing to say.....

worth it.
all these things are making riding more enjoyable and i'm loving it, with my new garmin on the way i can train and my ultimate goal is to take part in events next year and hopefully be able to compete with the top.

Personally I dont see why Specialized can't/won't use more internal cable routing. Is it that difficult a task to route cables along the inside of the toptube or downtube ?

Anyone know what this Vitus Vee-1 likely to be like? Would just be for riding around on tarmac etc really!

looks ok for the money. you do realise it's a single speed so it will be difficult to ride up hills. plus the size they have in stock is likely to be to small for you unless your short of course.
a good alternative that has gears is the carrera subway http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_551203_langId_-1_categoryId_165534.

I already have a Hardrock, just was looking at it for something a bit more fun.

well then yeah it looks good for a fun bike as said in the review, i was just going on that you had no bike, just remember riding a single speed is completely different from a normal mountain bike.

Yeah, it'd mostly be on flat with the odd hilly road, thats about it!

My XC race today was a total mess.

500+ riders churning up a muddy, steep, lose course and i'm on slick tyres = retirement after 2 out 4 laps :(

It's exactly the same...except you can't change gear :p

Don't lie! It was the OcUK extreme pace that you were subjected to yesterday that forced you to exhaustion ;)
