Jonny, I ordered my bike through that bike to work scheme (Where my commute is pitiful at best).. I got to the bike shop and they offered a brand new Enduro FSR Comp for £1250!! It wasn't what I was after, but at that kind of price.. It wasn't a deal I had to think twice about! I know people on here don't like Spesh or the Enduro too much, but for the money I thought it was an absolute bargain. :)

Did you have to pay £350 ontop of your voucher or were you allowed to apply for a voucher over £1k?

It's a nice bike which I'm sure you'll get the use out of on the way to work :P

I loved my brothers FSR xc when he had it and my bighit whilst it was working well.

Oh I had a budget of £2k, I just really didn't want to go over £1k. :p For the price I got offered the Enduro though, I just didn't have it in me to say no. They even threw in an Urge Endur-O-Matic helmet for £45 aswell!

My commute isn't long enough for that to have any effect on the bike I went for, IMO. Work knows that the bike I chose is mainly for out of work riding, and they had no problem with that. :)

Dont know why people moan at commuting on big travel bikes, we cant all afford or have space for multiple bikes. I use my Nomad to go to work in the summer months.

Those people (read: Littlesnott and Vanesssa) don't know their arses from their elbows :D

Awesome bike - though if I were you, I'd go to Halfrauds or gumtree and pick up a tatty old bike to commute on. Rob above might shred the pavement gnar on his 180mm bike, but using such a nice bike on the road just causes it unessesary wear and tear which will end up MUCH more expensive in the longer term.

Road gunk will get on and into your forks, your seals, you bushings... shock, shock bushings, seals... your tyres will wear (which are around £40ish per tyre), brakepads, brake pistons, hubs to name a few.

If you could fork out 1250 for a nice bike, then I disagree that you can't afford to find £100 somewhere or even less. I got a Carerra Subway for £80 to commute on and it served me very well. No space ... get an even worse bike and lock it up outside somewhere. Getting a cheap commuter will be cheaper in the long run, trust me.

But for me its not price its space. I have to pick one bike to have thats why i have one that does it all. Plus my commute is only about 3 miles a day. Then on average 20+miles offroad at weekend.

Granted it's not a long journey, though I'd still get a cheapy and just lock it outside -space problem solved.

^^ thats a little OTT isnt it? im sure the bike can manage a flat road fine given that it can push mud around and go over massive rocks

I'm assuming you're referring to my post about the bike getting messed up on the road? Yes of course it will manage dirt and muck, but the likelihood of him washing/cleaning the important parts (fork stanchions etc) bike every single day after his commute is slight is it not?

More likely to wash it after a riding session over the weekend and besides… that’s wear and tear it deserves, there’s no problem with the bike getting tatty because you use your mountain bike offroad ;)

I used to commute 50 miles a week on my Heckler. I was fast enough to race all but the fastest roadies through the traffic. I would take my bike offoad some lunchtimes too. A few weeks ago I road to and from work on the T2 (33.5lbs) on a mix of road/singletrack/fireroad/jump park. 20 miles each way.

Ride whatever bike you want!

as long as it's not a Spesh Enduro :p

Bah, if you're getting caught by a knobly tyre, bouncy bike then your not a roadie. Your just a guy riding a road bike on the road :p

HAHAHA, I know someone who's after a Tracer 2 ( Itchycrotch, not the same faceboob fella as last night) and I sent him a pic of Itchy's bike that he wants to sell.

This is his response :D

Damn, that is one WRONG bike, yellow frame, gold hubs, green pedals, pink bars and grips, white seat, Damn, way to ruin a good bike!
