Need a new stem, 70mm. Any recommendations?, can't really afford to go much more than £40 :(

Was looking at http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=67681 in black, as I like the design of it, but can't find any reviews.

Thanks.

i've been using Kore stems on both my bikes for a few months now, cheap and very strong/no noticable twisting (Old stem was too flexy, reason for the change) 80mm on my commuter and 60mm on my c456.

Has anyone had an experience with a GT Distortion? Really liking the look them. I think that might just because it seems so different to a lot of other bikes on the market, though. :D

Thanks. I've now read all of those and watched the video (and the videos linked in the ride monkey thread.) Do you think the bike would make a suitable AM/trail bike for the UK? I'd have asked in the thread you linked, but it seems they're all in the US. :p

I've looked at the distortion before and it looks like a really fun bike from a travel/geo point of view.

Cas - one of the things I've read is that you should make sure that the seat tube is long enough for you to get enough extension when sat down pedalling, probably won't be a problem unless you have massively long gangly legs. They're not particularly light either, if that matters to you.

Yeah I've read about both of them. The legs bit shouldn't be a problem, as I'm what? 5ft 9 or something, and my legs aren't exactly long. :p I've noticed it's quite heavy as well, but for the uphills the Idrive system and the low travel at the back seem to have turned it into a decent climber.

This is really looking more and more likely to be my next bike though, really does seem like you can go and do a bit of everything on it with no problems (except my very own lack of ability.)

Also, what do you think I would be better off doing? Getting the 2.0 and not upgrading much of it for a while, or get the 3.0 but upgrade most of its parts over 2/3 months? The 1.0 would end up maybe costing more, but it would allow me to get the bike earlier than if I went for the 2.0 version.

I need to get a stem as well. I measured mine roughly and it is about 110mm. I didn't measure total length (is that how you do it?) but from the center or bars to center of tube. I have a large frame and deliberately chose it to be more spacious for me, but think the previous owner was very tall. What are the more common lengths people go for? 40mm, 50mm, 60mm, 70mm, 80mm?

Measure the stem from the centre of the steerer tube to the centre of the bars.

Stem lenghth varies wildly depending on the rider and the bike.

Roughly speaking:

DH <50mm
AM 50 to 70mm
XC >70mm
Anything over 100mm is generally seen as old hat nowadays.

Anyone rode one?

Yes. I have had an extensive car park test on one. :p It's a very stiff frame, the downtube is stupidly wide. From what I have been told it's a very good bike. Mojo will service the shock and I'm told parts won't be a problem either. One of the guys I ride with just bought one the other day.

Which one did he go with? Jekyll 3 seems the best value out of them
