just been to swinley

it was pretty good! nice and frozen so no mushyness to ride through :)

new stuff looked good as well, new bit from the start over towards the insanely flat wiggly berms bit (which was getting re-done too)

our only problem is that after yellow brick road bit our route back to the car is rubbish, all muddy boggy bits uphill :(

My cheapo-ancient-piece-of-crap bike is pretty much on it's last legs and I don't dare use it for any distance cycling now and using it for commuting only is boring! I've got ~£350 of Love2Shop vouchers from some sales thing at work so I've been thinking of grabbing a new bike from Halfords (or anywhere else that might relinquish me of said vouchers). I really don't know the first thing about bikes so was hoping someone here could advise me; mostly for commuting but on my days off I go riding to the not so local parks and villages around (30-40 mile round trip), current bike cost around the £100 mark, so I figure something at this price point has to be a more pleasurable ride!

It`s a shame you can`t use them at decathlon as the rockrider 5.3 is a great entry level MTB. Halfords do a range of entry level MTB bikes like this one http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...uctId_810619_langId_-1_categoryId_165499#tab2 and this http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_810737_langId_-1_categoryId_165534 and this one too http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_810649_langId_-1_categoryId_165499 For what you do, I would think that a hybrid might be more suited to you, Like the carrera subway I linked to or this voodoo http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_786861_langId_-1_categoryId_165534 Both of these bikes are hybrids and should be ok for light trails/park paths etc.

Brothers new bike. He went for a brand new Scott Scale 60 in the end and is very pleased with it. It has similar brakes and gears as my Giant XTC SX, but is a bit lighter and just feels a lot faster.

The only thing we didn't like on it was the seat. It's horrifically uncomfortable. Any recommendations for a new one, or is it just down to personal preference?

Seats are a personal preference, but a lot of people tend to recommend the Charge Spoon.

I've got some WTB Volt thing, that seems pretty comfortable. I prefer it to my old SDG Bel Air.

A few pictures I've recently discovered from by trip to Antur Stiniog on the 18th November:

Pics turned out good.

I saw a photographer but forgot to check the pics. I've found a couple of myself before my day was abruptly put to an end by another trip to A&E. They never seem to get me on the drop at the bottom.

Can't wait to get back riding in the new year, with a little luck Summer '13 will be as good as '12. :)

@ Mark A, The Charge Spoon is the comfiest seat I've ever used, I'll never use anything else now. Only £20 too, might as well give it a go.

I just wasn't sure if they were restricting selling the brand to the US.

I also wish CRC would hurry up and list the Hope 142/12 Pro2 rear hub, I want to save a little by not having to buy the 135 and pay for the 142 endcaps...

Hey guys, not posted in here for a while.

Looking to get back into MTB after selling my Session and SX Trail, been bikeless for about a year but looking at picking up something second hand since I've been missing it since I got rid :(

What would people recommend? I don't want a DH or FR bike again but a more chuckable AM bike which I can still play around on the odd dh trail with but am more focussed on XC now, thinking Orange Five/SC Heckler kinda thing.

Going to buy used and don't really wanna spend more than £1200 as an absolute maximum, seen a 2011 Remedy 8 for sale on RIO which seems suitable, what do people think?

Ta :)

Charge spoon saddle is a popular but cheap choice, I find mine really comfy. Also change the pedals!

this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Santa-cruz-heckler-/170952201487?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item27cd8b950f seems alright for the money

Oooh, I like that. Not sure if I could get the money in the next few days though :( What other stuff around this price range should I be looking out for?
