First trip to Lady Bower in the morning. I'm looking forward to it, but I'm really nervous as well.. "The beast" isn't the friendliest sounding descent :p

I been looking at bikes for weeks and come down to a couple choices but im stumped on what to get!

2012 Meta AM1 or the 2013 Meta SL2 both the same price but cant help feeling the AM is a little to much for what i ride but its on such a good offer and has some much better parts! Im coming from a Commie Ramones which has served me great and i know ill have a blast on either of them.

The 2012 Meta AM1 outta them 2, much better value for money. Though a specilized stumpjumper maybe even an evo would be even better.

No need to be nervous, I did 42 miles for the Peak District Challenge around Ladybower/Derwent Res' without killing myself :D

The Beast is pretty brutal as most descents are in the Peaks, but its not particularly difficult, just pick good lines. Potato Alley is better/more fun though. Up at Hope Cross, the Beast heads towards the trees through a gate, Potato Alley goes left but its much longer and just as brutal.

Potato Alley

I'm not nervous because I think it will be too hard or anything, as I don't think that will be a problem - I'm nervous as I'm going with some riders that have been riding much, much longer than me, and are much better. :p

I'll probably kill myself trying to keep up! People only need to read in this thread to see how many times I injure myself. :p

Ladybower is brilliant. Went up there last... summer and spent nearly a full day out on the bikes, was supposed to be a lap of the reservoir but ended up being a mammoth trek into the middle of nowhere... I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

That was brilliant! :D I think uphill was actually much, much harder than the descents!

We went down The Best, Turnip?, Top Ten and Finns - I don't really know if that's what their proper name was, but everyone seemed to know those names. I absolutely loved Finns. I'm just happy I didn't fall off, although I was very close a couple of times on The Beast. :p

Found this on youtube. How much have things changed from the late 90s?!! :D

Parts 2, 3, 4 and 5 on there aswell. Its a good watch if you haven't seen it before.

Had a fun 18 miles on the SS out on the snow today, great conditions for it

edit: Loved the Hans Rey in part 4, particularly the strength to climb back up those steps.

Got chain spotting and dirty tricks and cunning stunts on dvd, the lack of helmets is incredible. Watchinh dirty tricks and cunning stunts makes me sad though, as no ones heard from the other martin (hawyes) since :-(

I used to love my Dirty Tricks tape ( :p ) watched it god knows how many times. Martin Hawyes still rides and has a twitter account, I don't think he's doing it for a living any more though like Ashton still does.

as far as i know the two martins are still friends.

i used to have martin h signed jersey after he rode some demo trials at a local show, the lbs i worked at had an excellent giant rep who got it arranged :D
