Another bike picture to add to them. Pretty well specced, just thinking about what can become carbon to shed some weight, she's not light...

She will never really be svelte, as the frame is quite weighty to begin with.
I wouldn't spend oodles to lighten her up, but a change of wheels and tyres should help.

Stans flow rear, stans arch front and Schwalbe Hans Dampf run boobless should save a bit , where it counts most.

Oh btw Cow, I'm booked in at The Barn with RR for the week commencing 27th July. Was looking at getting a chalet at one point but was struggling with numbers and places were starting to book up so decided to go with the safe option on the end.

Ah that's a shame, as I'd be going end of August now.
Probably also just going to book up in RR, as I won't have any numbers this year either.

Kinda miffed about the whole living arrangement. Going with a mate of mine who is bringing his whole family. His wife apparently is a very private person and doesn't want me to stay in the same chalet as them...so looks like I'll be johnny no mates staying by myself.

She'll never be the lightest I know this! Was looking at some Sixc bars, and rims maybe, was considering Stans Flows, not sure how much punishment they'll take? Tyres was looking at Maxxis LUST, I prefer the feel.

Every now and then I keep seeing pictures of the Evil Uprising and all specs so far state that all my components would just swap over....

The Uprising is e bike in my short list for when I ditch the DH bike and HT for "one bike", unless something else comes out in the next couple years to beat it out of the top 3 spot ;)

Sixc bars, cranks and some formula r1 brakes will shed quite a bit, but the wheels would be by far the most economical change. The flows are fantastic , can't vouch personally for the Arch but I've been told they are good.

Hey everyone, Hope I don't get too slated for this but here goes!

Im looking to start cycling again as im now in a good range of work to do it daily. I literally have no knowledge of bikes and haven't really cycled since being a teenager.

Im not looking to spend a lot of money (because in all honesty I just dont have enough right now to spend loads). Im looking to spend around £150 to £200 for im thinking a mountain bike wpuld suit me well. Maybe get down the woods and try to get the same fondness I had back in the day as a kid?

Now I have been looking around and there is a bike shop near me that sell quite cheap bikes but with some decent looking kit? (brake disks, fast gears)

Im just looking for someone who knows abit about bikes and can point me to the best one in the price range im looking for? Here is the link to the site.

Also im not sure if I want just front suspension or full? Not sure on the difference really?

Here are the two I was thinking about

http://www.cycleking.co.uk/AMMACO-CHICAGO-DISC-BRAKE-6-12-product-299.html

I also popped into Halfords today just to have a look at some aswell, Here is the one the dude pointed me in the direction of.

Any info would be greatly appreciated peeps! Again sorry for my n00b bike knowledge! We all have to start somewhere right? :p

Evil uprising is fugly!

No way!

And Supercow I'm currently at the one bike for the lot stage, maybe a downhill rig in a year or two, the decider is going to be how this one copes with the alps this year. Sixc bars yes, cranks if I get a windfall and probably rims, change the stem out and maybe some new pedals.

Fair enough, the linkage to me looks nice and interesting but the big solid lines like the swingarm look amazing.

For a fugly bike check out Guerrilla mavity, i'm sure the bike rides nicely but it's not a child i would have fed.

It will be fine out in the alps, obviously not as fast as a full DH rig, but it will cope very well.

A mate of mine was out with SRAM testing out the early prototypes in San Romolo, Italy. The DH tracks there are very long/ gnar, and the bike smashed it....and it didn't even have that awesome CCDB air of yours on.

If she's that private surely she can stay in her room till you go out riding!

Flows can take a beating, i'm rocking Flow EX's on my DH bike. Though ultimately any rim is only as strong as the build

I had Flows on my Distortion, and they took a battering - I'm a fat bar steward as well. Very close to 16st

Riding home tonight after a night ride on NYC singletrack.

I'll be honest there all pretty poor and I'd guess be awful to ride, do you really need disc brakes and suspension as at this price it'll be terrible.

For less than £300 on halfrauds site they've got a vengeance and a centos bikes in the sale at around half price as both usually are around £500ish, I'd say both these bikes are a good starting point and appear of decent quality and that most importantly should last and will perform ok off road and at your average blue to red graded trail centre.

They'll probably hold their value too, so if you get the bug and want to upgrade I'd guess you'll retain 50-60% of their value after a year or so if kept in good condition.

The other bikes you've posted aren't much better than cheap supermarket throwaways and I'd guess will break after not much use.

Alternative would be if you have a good local bike shop that does 2nd hand quality bikes, you'd probably be looking at prices around £200 - £300 for similarly spec'd big brand bikes like Scott, specialized, Giant. The specs probably won't be much better than the 2 I've mentioned as you pay more for known brands.

I hope this helps a little,
