Gisburn was great fun this morning, dry and fast.
Managed one whole lap of the 8 plus a second go round the top half and 2 runs down the hope line.

Grr, why do manufacturers lie about weights? Bought a folding Continental X-king 2.2 to replace my back kenda blue groove. The main reason I bought it was because it was quoted as 620g and supposed to be faster rolling. Just weighed it on my digital kitchen scales and its actually 710g, so about the same as the Kenda tyre then .

My brothers bike has wired rocket rons and they're only 600g. They do seem a bit flimsy though, so that's why I though the X-kings would be a better choice.

I notice there is a 'race sport' version here that is quoted as 485g on Wiggle. Anyone know the actual weight?

I personally see it as false advertising. I emailed bike discount about it and they said that mine were "within spec" so could not take them back (it was outside the 7 days DSR). I bought the new 4 compound Racing Ralph Snakeskin. I deliberately bought them as I wanted light snakeskin. Quoted as 550g on the site and Schwalbe's own website. They way over 600g each. Ok so not a lot more and noting to cry about, but...stop lying ffs. How hard is it for manufacturers to weigh something? I don't believe in all this tolerance thing where each batch may weigh more or less. Yes, by a bit. But not that much by a world leading tyre manufacturer that probably pumps them all out within micrograms of one another frankly.

Yeah there is no way it would be 50g-90g more due to tolerances. Or if that is the case then they should put 620g-710g.

The tyre also looks different to the pic on Wiggle. Mine doesn't have the orange border around the X and the pattern on the sidewall is different. I might contact wiggle and see what they say, but I think it is Continental that have given a false weight for their product, so not really Wiggles fault.

It's highly frustrating as a consumer to have to assume that quoted weights for almost any component are likely to be inaccurate. I rarely get a component that weights the same as the quoted one. How accurate are my scales you say? Well...more accurate than Schwalbe's apparently.

with bikes don't they usually weight them without pedals etc and if a bike comes in various sizes the weight estimate is the frame size in the middle

so if a tyre for 700c etc comes in various widths they probably weight the smallest width tyre :P

?
The Schwalbe website for example has weights for all the different tyres in terms of compound, width etc.
A tyre is a tyre. They should weigh it (individually) and stop lying.

This was the weight for the 2.2, the 2.4 weighs more.

I have emailed Wiggle to see what they say. I'm tempted to just stick with this tyre as it was only £21 and looks like it'll be a lot better for XC than my current one. 90g is a lot though and would have been great to be able to shave that off.

Any recommendation for a rear tyre that is about 600g? Continental do a lighter weight version of the X-king, which claims that it is 485g, so with the added 'tolerance' it should be in the region of 585g? :p.

90g, seriously? Don't wear any underpants & socks and you've saved your 90g right there.

Or go for a poo before every ride, save more than 90g! :D

I've saved almost a kg so far by shaving 100g off here and there :p.

My current tyres are around 720g, so if this new one was really 620 it would have been 200g when I replaced the rear as well.

I'm just trying to make my bike as light as possible as my brother bought a new bike and it was loads lighter than mine. Coupled with him being 2 stone lighter and him being a lot fitter than me, it made it really hard work trying to keep up.

Think my crappy crank didnt help as it felt like it was made out of jelly compared to his. The new XT one i bought is like night and day though and 300g lighter than the old one.,

I'd concentrate on losing the weight & getting fitter before worrying over 90g on a tyre.

As long as my bike is a reasonable weight, I don't let it bother me too much... My riding is all mavity driven though. :p

No matter how light your bike is, the fitter you are is always going to more useful than being light, well IMO.

Saving weight on your wheels far far far outweigh weight saved anywhere else on the bike.
You will even notice it more than shedding a KG of your bodyweight. (within reason of course)

I know that's tongue in cheek, but some people actually believe that.

Weight saved on rotational mass is invaluable, going for a poop wil only relieve pressure, nothing else.

Popped into CRC on the way to one of the trails around belfast earlier today. Picked myself up a Gyro Hex helmet for £48, which is around a tenner cheaper than other online shops.

The fork on my talon has really started to do my head in, it's like cycling round with a pogo stick on the front of it. Anybody have any recommendations for a 29er fork. It's a straight steerer afaik, 9mm dropouts would be better than anything else as it would save me from upgrading my wheels at the same time.

I've a long way to go before I should start worrying about the weight of my components. I could probably do with losing 20kg in body weight first! :D

Oh, it looks like I'm off to Morzine next week too!

Almost finished the Bandit :D

SLX all round
Flows on Hope Pro2 Evo
Kashima back-end
Float 32 150 FIT up-front
Reverb

Few bits to finish off but it feels awesome ... around my garden ;)

The top tube is really short mind, think my 50mm stem will need replacing with something longer. Oh and I need some black bars!

Full test run at the weekend :D

You only ride DH, and 20 KG is an awful lot.

I do however challenge you to the following:
You have super light wheels don't you - ZTR flow ex as well?

If so, go on and borrow really heavy wheels from a buddy and stick some Dh tubes in them. Stick them on your bike and go on and have a ride. Put your normal wheels back on after and go on and do a back to back run. The difference between the two wheelsets won't be more than 2kg at most.

Once you have done that, come back to me and say rotational weight doesn't make a big difference.

Stunning build there Baj!
