Do Shimano pads become less effective over time, or are the supplied ones just a bit rubbish?
I bought some Shimano Deore disk brakes a couple of years ago and when I took the bike out for a ride last night the back brakes have no bite at all. If I pull the lever as hard as I can it just screeches loudly. The fronts did the same last year, so i replaced with cheap superstar pads and they are still working fine.
Going to replace them with some superstar sintered, but just wondered if anyone had the same issue with the stock Shimano pads and knew why they stopped working.
I'd suggest after a couple of years some new pads are in order regardless....?
I don't ride an awful lot, so don't know why i'd need to buy new ones if they aren't worn?
Cleaning the pads and discs with isopropyl should decontaminate them as long as it's not too bad.

I can't think of anything I could have done to contaminate them. The only thing I came across when I googled the issue was that some Shimano brakes can leak oil at the piston, but I doubt it would happen to both brakes. Plus the superstar pads I bought last summer are still working great.Heating the pads in the oven will not help really if the pads are contaminated. Cleaning the pads and discs with isopropyl should decontaminate them as long as it's not too bad. I've had the same original Shimano pads in my Deores on my Canyon for well over a year and they are still as good as new to be fair. They've been in tons of mud, slop, rain, snow, grit and chunderbob yet the powers still there and there's no noise either.
How are your pads getting contaminated?
. That was a waste of £5 lol.
you must have massive balls! I salute you!
