700x23 action snow cycling win
Could actually cycle on fresh snow untouched by human nor car but once its compacted it's difficult.
You can see how deep it is by the rims!

Was going to go for a ride myself today as I quite like a run/cycle after a night on the lash but took a gander outside and thought "sod that"....

my bets are on the rear shock going next. ;)

My bet is the Bottom Bracket, Had to take the Cranks apart and the bearings are running as rough as a badgers crotch. heh only 2 months old FFS.

New mech is on and working though. still think its a specialised design fault with the mech hanger on the front mech not in line with the pivot properly. Only 2 threads holding one of screws on
Im doing 50km on Salisbury Plain tomorrow for the Winter challenge pre ride. Going to be riding through at least 4" snow.

I've signed up for 50km Winter Challenge ride on 2nd Jan, you doing that one?
It'll also be the first time I've been on my bike in 6 weeks :/

Yes sir this is the one, however I have booked a few nights away in Edinburgh for new year. So unfortunately I will miss this, Its my local club so have done allot of riding there. Make sure you bring out the skinny tyres as most of it is double track, similar to fireroads. Still a good crack just after new year though :)

edit - Just looking at your bikes, You should take your FSRxc if you hadn't already planned to take it.

Yeah, that is my race bike :)
I was planning to use a 2.25 Rocket Ron on the front and a 2.25 Furious Fred on the rear. I will take a more grippy tyre for the rear just in case it's very slippy conditions.

Shame you aren't doing it.

so my bike build is going to cost me a LOT more than the initial £1000 budget id set myself , so far ive spent just under £800 and all ive got is

  • Giant Reign Frameset
  • Full Respray on above frame
  • new bearing set for frame
  • Avid Elixir Brakeset
  • Rockshox Tora 302's (not the best for this frame but ill be upgrading next year)
  • Truvativ 60mm stem
  • FSA 282 bars
  • Superstar AM490 wheelset with Ti skewers
  • KCNC seatclamp @ only 10g!!!!
  • SDG Bel Air saddle
  • SLX Shifter combo
  • Superstar Lockons
i had planned on puting an SLX double on for the crankset but they've rocketed up in price , can anyone recommned me a decent alternative? must be external BB
also need some suggestions for rear mech and cassette
also whats everyones thoughts on brake rotor sizing? on my hardtail i run 180/160 but was looking at a 203/180 option for the reign? is this overkill

im also trying to save weight where i can but money also has a deciding factor :(

Just keep an eye out on second hand bike forums (southern downhill, bike radar, singletrack magazine) for a decent crankset, I was after the SLX m665 chainset before they went back up in price, but managed to get a nearly mint deore xt m770 from singletrack forums for £65.

That's all pretty poor :( I would by trying to get a warranty replacement BB. They are not usually covered but it's worth a punt.

Ti skewers = flexy and loose. [been there, broke that] I hope you aren't a fatty with that seatclamp. It looks scary thin!
Raceface cranksets are pretty good. Bottom brackets suck though.
No such thing as overkill with brakes. ;) I have spare 203/183 rotors you can borrow if you want to see how powerful bigger brakes are? For rear mech/cassette it has to be XT IMO.

Thank god someone has finally posted a bike picture :D and a beast too  I would leave the bike in your living room, it detracts from the sofa, carpet, rug and curtain combo you have going there

Edit: can we have a spec?
