after some advice, i'm off to the alps this summer with some friends biking. I'm wanting to get into more DH type stuff but i need a new bike.
I've got a Maximum of 1900 to spend. I don't mind if its 2010 or 2nd hand.
Been looking at sx trails and demos so far.

cheers
martin

You definitely need a Commencal Furious CG Edition 2009 Med/Large. Perhaps you should try searching for one on a popular auction website? :P

Took a couple of pictures of this morning's ride out & thought I would share them...

Looks to be Near Carlton Bank Downhill track/run, I keep meaning to go there and check it out. Just a short ride then ?

Hows Endomondo working for you ?
Mine keeps saying I've done 51mph ! and it doesn't seam to load the map up where I've actually ridden since they've updated the site to the new look. I'm using on on Android on a HTC Wildfire.

So, I woke up this morning at thought I'd get my race face on. Ive been training for a Duathlon for the last few months. 1/3rd of my way round and we started to overtake the slower group on the ride. I felt surprisingly good, Power in my legs after a 2.5mile XC run. Overtaking people etc :)

It was shouted that slow riders stay on the left as we shot past them on the right. Women with no clue moved away from a ******* puddle and took me out!!! I'm not happy as she didn't even say sorry and its was totally her fault. I helped her up and checked to see if she was alright. She then said "I didnt know what was behind me" WTFOMG

Why oh why do these event 'release' people just before the faster group so we have to go around them. grrr gets on my beef.

Yeah, fairly short. Was freezing 1st thing (8am) and the mud made it feel longer, a lot longer :D

Never even herd of that DH, might check it out next time. There's loads of tracks over there that lead off to god knows where, plenty of exploring to do.

Endomondo is fine so far, had 1 run where it had me at 50mph max speed too but apart from that sees fine. I'm running on Android too, on a HTC Desire.

what do you guys think of shwalbe fat albert tyres? i got them on my new bike and the seem to pick up leaves and get them stuck between the frame and tyre and the rolling resistance is terrible are these downhill tyres? can someone suggest better tyre xc ideally.

I've got Schwalbe Smart Sams on my Cube and they have soaked up pretty much everything I've chucked at them in the last year. Fine for climbing, downhill and more demanding freeride sessions. Carron Valley and Laggan Wolftrax in Scotland are a few places I've tested 'em out. Rubbish on tarmac though, obviously. Found that out when I attempted an 18 mile on road commute with the bike and those tyres, just to see how it was. :p

don't get me wrong they are fantastic tyres the grip well i was just wondering if the picking up leaves were normal and does it go away once the have worn a little and the rubbish rolling resistence is good exercise i just wanted to know if it was normal. i've come from conti race king ss

My Evil Sovereign hardtail is coming along nicely now, so far I have:

Evil Sovereign medium frame
Rock Shock Lyriks
DT 5.1d & Pro 2 wheelset, nevegal (stick-e 2.35) & excavator (dtc 2.1) tires
Easton Havoc DH stem
KS i900-r seatpost + white charge spoon
Sram X0 short cage mech (anniversary model with gold gubbins)
X9 rear shifter
XT M770 cranks
Fatties Flatties pedals (same as superstar nanos)
Blackspire inner bash ring

I'll be paying for some '09 Forumla The Ones on Tuesday, then all I need is some finishing touches/stuff for 1x9 setup: 30t chainring, blackspire stinger, a bash of some sort (straitline serrated, white), jagwire gear cable (white) and the 1/2" rise answer pro taper bars when they come in stock on CRC. It'll hopefully look quite pimp when it's done, mostly black with gold/white bits.

Pictures to follow in a few days :D

A fantastic road ride yesterday following up with a great day on the mtb today, ~100miles and 10000ft of climbing combined. Starting to get some fitness back after being out for over 3 months.

The views weren't bad from the top of the highest climb.

Hey guys another boring question as is the case with me lol, Looking at building a new front wheel, got a 32h hub but what sort of rim should i be looking at, previous wheels mavic crossrides for referance, to go on a 456 for pretty much any type of riding i can do. Was thinking along the lines of mavic EX range or the XM but soo much choice its confusing. 2.35 tires will be slipped on too.

Race King SS's and Smart Sam's are both XC tyres but the RK's are all out XC race tyres and the Sam's are at the XC/AM end of the range.

They are still pretty light with good rolling resistance though, just you've been used to riding with one of the fastest tyres you can buy.
Fit some Dual Ply DH Maxxis Minions for a few rides, then go back to the Sam's and you'll realise they are fast ;)

Hey, got a cabin booked for the weekend the 17th December up in Strathyre. Need to decide whether to take the bikes up for the weekend or not, any decent rides around there? Nothing overly taxing but still good as my girlfriend will be with me. Weather could be bad too :o

Thanks
