By the same comparison someone with a £5k bike can call someones £2k bike rubbish then surely.

Nope, all of us enthusiasts know that when you get to be spending the thousands, there are diminishing returns on the money you spend vs the performance of the bike.

Bugs me a bit in here how some thing that because someone chooses a bike they dont like it makes it rubbish.

Nope, it's not that I just don't like it... it's a sh!tbucket with zero redeemable qualities.

For example, I personally don't like the heckler, but there are loads of them in the thread which I can acknowledge as good bikes... still dont like them though.

You've been drinking again, aint ya :p

:D

.. my point is still valid on the hangover though! :D

I'm possibly going to come across again as a right plonker, but are you sure you want to buy something like that second hand?

Dont get me wrong, I buy loads of second hand parts - but IF i were to buy carbon bars, I wouldn't get them second hand. Just make sure to check for any signs that they have been involved in a crash. Same reason I won't buy a helmet second hand either ( well.. that and I wouldnt want to put my head where someone else's sweaty noggin was in :D )

Got to agree with you on that. I tend not to buy anything secondhand though.

Having re-read this thread sober (I had been drinking for quite a while, my 5am post was just before I went to bed) I now get where everyone was coming from... SC made a very fine argument when comparing it to his *ahem* "gunz" :p

note to self: don't post drunk :o :p

I have a set of Easton Monkeylite XC CNT bars hanging up in the garage. After I had a bad crash last year I err'd on the side of caution and replaced them. My consceince would get the better of me if I sold them on.

On the Heckler note....I just rode Fichie (a trail I have ridden countless times on the Heckler) on the T2. In general I rode the whole route faster and with more confidence than ever before. The Heckler just seems flexxxxxxy in comparison. Awesome :D

I'm happy enough to buy most bits second hand but I won't touch carbon bit's as it's almost impossible to check for non obvious damage and if they fail they do so suddenly.

I like the comparison as I've got MG-1's on the big bike. Once I've smashed the pins out of this set I might have to consider a set of those :)

right - you boys are freaking me out - after thinking about things today I guess I agree to some extent. hmmm - i would like carbon bars but brand new £100 or so is a bit pricey.

I was thinking £50 for the bars (which I agree with the guy - the pictures do appear to look very good nick) and could get some new shoes for about £60/£70.

Should I go for the alloy Easton Havens instead? Not overly mad about weight saving but the havens plus some 5-10's for £120/£130??

I have a bit of a noob question. I currently have a 17" frame and it feels a little bit small. Rather than buying a new bike I was thinking about just changing the frame and going for a 19" and transferring all the stuff from mine. Here is my question looking at my bike it appears to have a few spacers under the stem... do you think the forks would fit on a 19" frame. see below.

I am guessing I would need to look at the geometry of both frames and see if removing the spacers allowed for the additional frame length.
