Two days running now, I've got a puncture on my back wheel. That's two inner-tubes in the space of 24 hours. Fantastic.

I think I was maybe right about my tyres.

Can anyone suggest me some decent hardy tyres for my bike? Also, does anyone have any recommendations for inner-tubes? I think it's time to upgrade. Can't be ****ed with this every other day.

The inner tube that came with the bike is leaking air near the valve. I think it's faulty and must have come like that. I'm not so sure it's worth salvaging. I replaced it with a cheap emergency tube from Tesco for a couple of quid hoping it'd buy me time before I could get some quality tubes, but that's just gone flat on me on the way to playing football. I haven't checked to see what's caused this flat yet as I'm a little exhausted (work and football), but I wouldn't be surprised if the tube's split completely.

Andelusion, my bike is a bTwin 8.1 Rockrider 2010 (cf. page 624), size L, 26" wheels.

The tube I replaced last night was a default bTwin one: 26x1.75/2.125.

I'd rather get some good quality tyres and some decent inner-tubes and spend the time rescuing them instead.

Riding: daily commute on pavement and roads, and the odd venture down the local woods.

Also, I've noticed last night Decathlon have thrown on some RockShox Recons instead of the default Toras. A little bonus there.

You need to check the punctures tubes too see where they're holed, then check the tyre and the rim thoroughly in that location. Thorns can be tiny and hard to spot.

Probably just bad luck with the punctures. I was fine for a while then got 2 punctures very close together and nothing since (touch wood)

The 8.1 2011 comes with Recons so, if your bike is definitely the 2010, they probably ran out of Tora 302's

Hit Cannock at the weekend. Cursed my way up all the hills and then **** myself down the other side - it was brilliant.

Hills? What Hills?! :D

Ok there are 2 not very nice climbs, both of them fire road but all the switch back climbs are really easy. But you're right, the downs are very good.

Thinking of going to Cannock in the week as I'll be off work but its been too dry and dusty of late. Has the rain we've had helped the surface at Cannock or is it still like a sandpit?

Get the tyre and tube off, rip off whatever cheap rim-tape they're using and replace it with some decent stuff, also make sure there's no sharp edges round your valve drilling (file it smooth if you have to).

Ive been meaning to go to Cannock as I've only been there once.
Is there a new track called "Monkey" or something to that effect?

The Monkey Trail, yes. A mixture of Red and some minor Black sections. Depends when you last went it has probably changed a lot since.

A complete loop of Follow The Dog and The Monkey Trail is between 14-15 miles.

I enjoy it every time I go.

Did you examine your tyre and remove the nasty that was stuck in it before replacing your inner tube? There's sometimes more than 1 to find!

Protect your fingers when running them around the inside of the tyre, glass can slice a nice deep cut in your finger.

Rather than give up on tyres just yet, I can recommend Slime inserts/liners - they go around the tyre between the tyre inside and the tube. Bit fiddly to fit, but they seem to stop most things getting through my tyres!

Yeah well, you either go nice and light and risk punctures or have a bit of weight and dont have punctures. Only one of these stops me and pis*** me off mid ride.

I have tried tubeless and for me it just wasnt worth the hassle.

You're obviously much fitter because even the switch back ones were hard going for me especially the first one after you cross the road for the monkey trail although I think that one was hard because there's no room to get going.

The conditions seem pretty good. It rained Friday night I think and there was still some muddy sections so overall it was pretty good.

Go tubeless. I used to get loads of punctures (pinch flats) unless I ran at high pressures. Since I converted to ghetto tubeless I run 35psi and have only had one and that was a large bit of flint going completely through the side wall and destroying the tyre.

Well in all fairness I've found hills easier since I quit smoking, but I'm far from fit. I even managed Kit bag hill last time at Cannock when I usally get off and walk! :D

Glad to hear the conditions are good, might go there on Thursday morning.

Managed to lose 8lb in the past month just from riding my bike and eating less chocolate!

I have been tracking myself on Endomondo and have done a steady 30 miles a week spread over 4 rides a week for the past 3 weeks.

Impressed with that, as I wasn't really overweight to begin with, I did have a BMI of just over 25 and got it down to 24 now. If I can lose another 7-8 and make it about a stone then that should be pretty much spot on.

I am fairly active in my job, but its strength not fitness which is what I needed to improve.
