I think it may be my bottom bracket...

.... Are quick release skewers compatible with all hubs or do I need to get specific hubs?

There are a load of different types of Bottom brackets. If you know what crankset/frame you have then it will be easier to tell you what tool you need. It sounds like a Hollowtech 2 external BB, if it is you need a Park Tools BBT-9 tool.

Quick release skewers are quick release skewers. As long as it's a QR hub and a front wheel skewer - it will fit.

It may be the seatpost. Does it creak when standing up or sitting down?

It's happens everytime when standing up and only when under high load when sat down.

Everything else on the bike seems to be shimano so i'm hoping the crankset and bottom bracket are as well. I'll have a look tomorrow and see if I can find out which crankset I have. I might take a picture and see if anybody can figure it out!

So I need QR hubs to be able to use QR skewers? If so, it might not be worth it at the moment. I can wait until the wheel are due to be replaced/upgraded.

And........ Finally gone 1x10 on the Epic. I have been to the Mendips today for 4 hours riding. 1200m climbing and not a problem.
Oh and it was very WET :( I got caught out in a thunder storm.
Its 34/34

..
Oh and you may of noticed but the Gold bling wheels have gone. Spesh replaced them for free as they started to ping spokes. New ones seem to roll on for ever.

Anything to do with the alloy nipples?

Just ordered a sunline V1 travel guide chain device for me 10 speed shimano xt crank, im now looking for a suitable 36t chainring, could anyone point me in the right direction? Do i need a 10 speed specific chainring or would a 9 speed work as well?

Probably
The spokes snapped in the nipple, I think it was due to that they (Roval Contole AL) are classed as race wheels and I hammered them since October. They had to be trued a dozen times between both wheels. So the spokes with overly tight!

Got my new bike on saturday. Had an awsome ride yesterday at Swinley, The downhills I got back into my flow pretty much straight away - 4 years off the bike. Uphills are something else tho!

Must say i'm rather impressed wiht the Trek 6500 the components are really good, frame is really good. The biggest shock was the forks, they are the Air Recons and dam are they good! Not as good as my old 888s but I was shocked at there performance, only thing I am a bit thing about are the breaks, they were a bit lacking. Maybe they are taking a while to bed in.

Need to get a new helmet tho. Anyone got any recommendations? Something nice light and comfy - Less than £80 I hear the specialized ones are really good now?

I sent you a message via trust, reply to it so that I can send you the GPX files. You can open GPX files in google earth or any other mapping software and it will show you a track on the map.

I normally just load it onto my smartphone as a guide to where the interesting trails are while I am roaming about in the forest.

I normally go early Saturday morning so probably not likely to have seen you. I now ride a GT I-drive in baby blue :o. It looks so ridiculous that you won't miss it. I will be going tomorrow morning though as I am on holiday at the moment. Looking like it is going to be a wet one.

Thanks! Replied

Im after a new helmet as well, one that doesnt make my already big head look MASSIVE lol.

Something simple like a p*55 pot would probably suffice, any recommendations ?

If you want a actually pot, best ones on the market still imho are protec ones.

But they are 100% bmx style. So not best for airflow ect.

Not that fussed about air flow as I find it doesnt really make that much of difference considering i sweat like a pedo in a youth club anyway.

Just after something that doesnt make my head look massive, the only time it doesnt is when i wear the full face but thats a bit much for a 5 hour xc trip :)

So I noticed over last weekend that my headset has had it. It's really creaky and has loads of forwards/backwards play. Does this mean I have to replace the whole thing?

Possibly.
If its a cup and bearing type, it might just need tightened (best to take it apart, clean and regrease at the same time tho). If its a sealed bearing type, chances are its worn out.
