Avid Elixir 3's - are they reversible?

Canyon France are now saying that the bike will come with French brake positioning, i.e. back brake on the right. The guy from the French office said I could just switch them round on the bars without needing to bleed and pull the hose out.

Anyone know if this is true?

My brother in law swapped his Elixir CRs around as he's a Portugenese chap (weirdo Yurps running their brakes the wrong way)
I dont see why you cant with these.

By the way, you;re living in Yurp, might as well get used to riding the brakes like that! :)

I swapped my elixir 5's easy enough, they're abidextrous, just flip em over. I assume the 3's are similar.

I live in Asia and they all run their brakes other way too. I guess it is a global thing and we are the odd balls but I much prefer back on the left, front on the right.

It's to do with the side of the road that we drive on. I think it was originally done so that you still have your hand on the primary brake when indicating to turn right (with the mistaken view that the rear brake is the primary brake).

To be honest I prefer covering the rear brake if signalling right. Less chance of something going wrong.

Ive always wondered abut this difference in preference and all the theories falls apart when you start to think about it.

I personally think having the front on the right makes sense because your front wheel is the one you really use to stop and the back to modulate your speed.
Added to that, most people are right handed, so it's easier to be more "precise" when braking/stopping without going OTB.

I sincerely doubt this is the reason or anything close to the reason, but it fits my preference :p

try riding a bike with the opposite position, it's crazy, I'm constantly second guessing myself and end up using both at the same time. Can't wait for it to be the proper way round - only 2 weeks to go!

my rear and only brake is on the right on my bmx

rear is left on the mountain bike

never had an issue but this could be due to my ambidextrous nature of writing with left hand , throwing with right hand , hitting with left hand , shooting with right hand. I'm a weirdo!

My Enduro is ready for me to fetch now... But I did my Cruciate Ligaments yesterday playing badminton.

I don't think I've ever been so gutted. :(
