This is what it looked like when I last used it. Ignore the Horrendous read mudguard, I ditched that :)

Wellgo pedals and Bel air RL seat.

Looking at it makes me just think I should stop being a git and use it .

I'm heading out into the Cairngorms this weekend. There was a light snowfall yesterday. It's getting to that time of year where I might have to wear long socks again! :|

Here's a question for the DH riders, do you ever feel your bike is over-specced?

You can probably tell I'm a XC rider, but I wonder to what end you would upgrade your bike, when the real question is how far are you willing to push yourself in the descent?

I.e. it's all good and well having massive amounts of travel in your shocks, but unless you're pushing it to the extreme, does it really justify it?

If your question is: Can I get away with a bike with less travel, yes - I can... and the vast majority of people can, regardless of where you ride.

I had the exact model....great bikes ...Id probably still have mine now if i didn't need to sell at the time.

I loved the colour even though i was unsure when i first ordered it.

So wherein lies the reason for upgrading?

I can totally understand the need for the pro riders, but for your amateur rider does the tech really justify it.

It's not just the downhillers who are like that. The XC guys are just as bad, only with them, it's going lighter rather than more travel.
In fact, i'd say the weight weenies are worse than the big travel guys.

I dont understand what you mean by " upgrading" ?
I ride a DH bike for DH duties and an Enduro orientated bike for everything else. I like riding a good bike because

1. I can afford to
2. Its fun riding a good bike.

For amateur ... well having good equipment makes up for my lack of ability and it allows me to go as fast as I possibly can, which I wont be able to do with a sh!tbucket...or go as fast, but in more comfort.

Besides, DH is a lot "all in the head". When you're feeling confident in your equipment, the bike's feeling good, you're having fun ... and you are naturally faster.

Why are you targeting your question to DH and not MTB in general?

I won't buy below XT for my XC/AM bikes. I notice the difference is shocks and frame quality. I don't race seriously. For my DH bike I bought a "budget" bike purely because I won't/don't ride it as much as my other bikes.

If you ride regularly you appreciate the difference in quality of components.

What is the question?
