I have the same shock pump Chris. It has 2 parts to it like that video to minimise air loss when unscrewing it. Follow the vid.

Just to offer an alternative opinion. I've had 4 or 5 sets of Superstar brake pads. All have been excellent. I've always used their sintered pads, they have plenty of bite and last a decent amount of time too.

x2 - bought some recently - can't comment on longevity yet but no problems regards braking so far.

So it would seem, although there's bound to be an element of me being a huge spaz in there somewhere.

This is the one I've got, first time I've used it today. Reviews seem to be favourable though and I think Andelusion said he's got the same one and had no trouble with it.

Haha Stoopid noob:D Cant use a shock pump

I did the same. Felt a right rodney when I sussed it out.

Wind the end piece all the way out. the attach that to the shock by spinning the whole pump. When thats on all the way then turn the little wheel that will the engage the valve. Then pump.

Removal is the opposite

I'm quite impressed with superstar pads actually.

I was told before the strathpuffer that some people can go through a set of pads in just 1 lap!

I bought 16 pairs of pads, so i could only afford to buy superstar pads. Still cost £70 :( but thats about a third of what clarks/jagwire/etc pads cost.

Anyway, swapped once (thought the old ones were done - turns out it they were fine). Second set lasted 10 puffer laps and still have loads left in them.

Just after a little advice peeps. Running two Maxxis Advantage tyres (2.25) on my Orange Five. Today I was recommended a Maxxis Ardent, reading up on them they are a good tyre apart from a few reviews mentioning poor side wall strength and the fact that they can let go on cornering hard but "bite" again once committed into the corner.

But unsure whether to put the Ardent on the rear and leave the Advantage on the front or vice versa, anyone had any experience with these tyres that can advise further?

I already have bought the Ardent as I'm in desperate need for a new tyre and have a ride in the Peak District tomorrow so expecting some nice muddy conditions.

Cheers
Ardent are a great tyre. I hated Advantage the one time I had to ride them on a demo bike.

Just glad I started playing this evening and not tomorrow at the bottom of a hill in Wales!

I bet some of us have done that too.

A mate had a puncture but only had patches he started to undo the valve and wastn't paying attention. Valve went flying off into the distance. That was a long walk.

For him:D

I think I may give superstar a go, wish the bulk buys could be a mixture of the different compound types instead of brake manufacture type though! Like to try some different ones out.

A yound buddy of mine - Aston Hill local - going big at Woburn sands, on his XC HT ... in the rain, after a long XC loop.

I had beef with my shock pump yesterday, as I reached around 20psi (scott equalizer shock) the flexible hose kept bursting off separating from the pump. Borrowed a friends in the end but I've tried crimping the metal part where it connects to see if that helps. I was surprised to see that that part only pushes on rather than screws.

Evolved the commuter bike a little today:-

Before:-

Wasn't quite happy with the battery solution or more specifically the carrying method. Yes it was light but it looked a bit amateurish and I was concerned about the packs being upside down and stressing the cables and also about theft and susceptibility to damage, so I've "evolved" the solution.

This is what I've decided to work with:-

http://uk.farnell.com/hammond/1550wjbk/box-diecast-66x175x275mm/dp/1823087

It's 1kg in weight so that's a bit of a shame but it's worth it imo.

1st thing was to gring out the central ridge so the box could mount via the water bottle bosses:-

I then faced the battery pack (12s10ah of 4x5ah 6s Zippy packs) with some carbon fibre to protect the pack against the bolts and the wiring (you'll see later):-

Bike pack on left, light pack on the right (2s4p of 4x2ah Turnigy Nano packs):-

Very happy with that :-)
