Big Bike Thread

I don't really see how it being a "cheap bike from the internet" makes any difference though? It's the same RockShox fork and Maxle you'd get no matter where you bought the bike from, his shop included.

He wouldn't be the first numpty encountered in a bike shop though and I'm sure he won't be the last.

I also wouldnt call £1600+ Quid cheap. I guess maybe in the grand scheme of things it might be.

I am so annoyed I can do nothing but think about this whole situation. I am very impatient at the best of times, its probably my biggest flaw, and not having answers is killing me.

If SRAM get back to me and say its not covered by warranty where the hell am I going to stand? I will need some new forks ... Which right now I cant even bear to think about.

Worst case scenario is you'll need new lowers if they can't sort the thread, and a new Maxle.

The guy from SRAM tech said they would be able to fit new lowers and should have it done by beginning of next week if it gets collected today. They have all parts in stock. I just hope they honor it in warranty and no more surprises crop up :(

I just got a mail from YT asking for pictures of the Maxle and the thread on the shock.

I have expained to them that I do not have the bike as I have given it to the LBS to send to SRAM.

However I have called the LBS and they have agreed (Dave) kindly to email me across some pictures. I explained that I still want them to send it for repair as I just cant be doing with waiting for ever to get to the bottom of this.

Sorry if it seems like I am flogging a dead horse with this story but I need a place to vent and you guys are ideal!

Swampthing I'd say, I've only used a Hans Dampf out of those lot but although it's a great all rounder it's not a specific wet tyre, neither is the high roller.

You could try a muddy mary too?

@Musty Pie - read your story with interest, you can't really blame the bike shop for being annoyed with you for bringing a bike in that you purchased elsewhere and then asking them to help you get it fixed... Out of interest where did you buy it from? Surely you should be going back to them for customer service?

The bike shop shouldn't be annoyed, yeah they lost out on selling a bike but I'd think they make a higher margin selling the smaller things which the guy wouldn't be buying from YT so should have been pleasant.
They got it from YT industries who are not based in the UK

If you read my story you would already understand that I was willing to pay the bike shop for their time and made this apparently clear as soon as I went in.

I also did not once imply that it was their fault or responsibility to help me sort it. I explained the situation clearly and requested help from them.

If i owned my own company, ANY person through the door is a potential customer and I would treat them with respect to secure future sales. I would not hit them with smart ass remarks and show an unwillingness to help because its only going to have a negative effect.

Also under your mentality that means that ANY company that offers a "repair or service" can treat customers like **** if they didn't buy a product from them? if that was the case no small independents would be in business

edit:

Lora beat me to it! Its a German based company I bought the bike from hence the issues with dealing with them in the first place.

Sram specifically stated taking it to a LBS even if it was not purchased there as they are the only people in the UK who could help me.

People walk into bike shops every day with bikes they've bought elsewhere and ask them to fix things?

And if you read the story with interest, surely you'd have noted that he bought the bike from an internet mailorder company based in Germany - hence the many posts voicing the fact he's worried about getting it sorted over here under warranty.

The whole point of a bike shop is to repair any bike. Its like saying a car garage got the arse because you took your car to be repaired there but didn't buy it from there, makes no sense so its a null point you make.

The dude musty dealt with initially sounds like an utter moron. How dare he judge someone for shopping smart, just because musty didn't pay over the odd's for shopping in the UK he shouldn't be treated any different.

1st of all it was a pair of Rock Shox forks at fault, absolutely nothing to do with YT, could have happened to anyone anywhere, 2nd of all its not ridiculously cheaper, just cheaper than say a trek at the same spec and thirdly YT isnt an unknown brand out there, they're just not mainstream. The pee brain musty spoke too 1st needs to learn how to deal with customers fo shizzle.

I've got myself a new front wheel and need to put the disc on but was wondering do I need thread lock? If so what one do you recommended.
Also what summer gloves do you guys use my 661 raji gloves are almost worn out, I really want some that are similar but last longer

Gutted to hear the guy was a nob to you Musty but it might just be him in a mood, don't worry about the bike I'm sure they won't go out the way to scratch it!

If you already had an "SRT-todays date- job number" then you saved the shop time sitting on hold to sram tech. Took me about 15 minutes to get a returns number for a faulty sram red lever.

If I turned away bikes we don't sell I'd have no work. I always seem to have a bunch of treks, boardmans or specialized in at any given time. Today I set up a chinarello full sky/british cycling coloured dogma replica...that didn't even have the cable hole drilled for the front mech so that was fun. THAT is buying cheap online.

I don't think YT are that bad but I think that way of doing business doesn't help us, same goes for Ribble selling at nearly trade price a lot of the time. As has been said you then get the sale of a helmet, shoes, pedals and other stuff that doesn't work buying online.

I got a pair of these, that's lasted for a couple of months or so thus far. I'm quite heavy on gloves and go through them quickly, but for £8 I think these are a bargain.

I've found that the 661 cheaper gloves last about 2 months before the fingertips fall apart, I've had 2 pairs of Comp gloves (which, admittedly are their cheapest ones) and they've both failed in the same way.

Get some Troy Lee XC gloves if you can, I've had mine since April and they're going strong, they're for warmer weather but are toasty with some thin base layer gloves on.
