Nice bike ride around the canal and local trails earlier this afternoon :)

Getting fitness back up for the Malverns and Cannock!

I did the follow the dog trail at Cannock today and it was awesome as usual. Now the end section is back open its a lot more fun than finishing off down a straight fire road. People were gathered round warewolf drop like mad again, I had to wait n que for a few minutes to be able to get by (though I was thankful for a breather).

It does get really crowded at the weekends if you go later in the day, we tend to go early and do a full lap of the dog and monkey, luckily the traffic is quite light.

Finally got a Blur TRc, not black/green like I wanted, but this one is brand new :)

schwing!

Looking for some advice.

I am thinking about getting a bike through the works Cycle2work scheme. I am looking to pay max £700 for a hardtail.

The downfall is I am restricted to 1 retailer. There is a few bikes in the sale section, my question is are any of them any good?

What would you buy (If any)?

If you're using it to cycle to work, why do you want a mountain bike?

Because the short cut to work takes me off road which I think a road/hybrid bike will struggle with. I would also like to use the bike on weekends too for pleasure rather than owning two bikes...

I am also more familiar with mountain bikes, so i would feel safer riding one.

Is this a DHSS Interview? :D :)

LOL - always people chickening out on the werewolf drop... :) - its a bugger though when they all stand at top with their bikes in the way.

I tend to go first thing it just needs motivation though - often arrive just after 09:00 and maybe a couple of other people and thats it and its lush :)

Yeah got all the other parts apart from stem (Funn Funnduro) and headset (cane creek 40), going to get a downtube guard a guy in the US makes for carbon santa cruz's. I never thought I'd get one as they're stupid money new in the uk, recent SC blowout sale in the US has meant there's a few bargains relative to what us UKers pay, mine was less than half price. I bet I'd get my money back or lose very little if i sold it on here.

Went to the Forest of Dean yesterday for the first time. Perfect weather and trail conditions, good facilities etc. Really good day, I will go back again.

A video I made from yesterday.

Why would anyone gather around the warewolf drop?
I've just youtubed it and its not even a drop!

I've not ridden Cannock yet, a few riding buddies don't rate it at all, they did catch some chav trying to nick one of there bikes after the ride too, about 6 of them caught him and the lass who's bike he nicked needed to be restrained from beating him.

Mind you its the same at Dalby Forest on a Weekend, Families all over the place who think its fine to fix punctures on a fast flowing bit or around blind bends. That's why I tend to ride mid week or early morning.

When you see warewolf drop in person its completely different than any youtube clip, to an amature it's extremely daunting and even someone with experience could easily end up face planting. It's on a 90 degree angle from the track and you go down in between 2 trees, if it wasn't at 90 degrees from the track you wouldn't think twice, it's just awkward is all.

If your only an hour/hour n half away from Cannock then it's definitely worth checking out. The red routes (follow the dog and monkey trail) are pretty cool, some nice little downhill sections which if you push yourself you can get the adrenaline going and it becomes a lot more fun. There's some nasty black graded rock gardens on the monkey trail which are not so nice or for the faint of heart. Don't just go by youtube, check it out in person before you judge. Heres a good youtube clip of the monkey with the black parts:

I really like the Blur TRc, beautiful frames. What fork are you going to use on it?

I'm already wanting to upgrade my Distortion.. I'm after a new stem, handlebars, shifters and brakes. :p

Revelation rlt ti at 140 but might lower to 130. Should be easy to sell your bits I've basically sold 2.5 bikes in a week using pinkbike and eBay :)

Nice. Yeah, I will sell my stuff, but my stem and bars are no name rubbish, my shifters are Alivio. And my brakes are Elixir 1's... So I'll not get much for them lol. Which is why I think I need to wait until maybe next month, and that's going to be tough with these shifters and brakes.

So I survived Antur Stiniog on Thursday and so did the El Guapo.

I was a little worried I'd be under biked with a 150mm AM bike and on arrival seeing lots of DH rigs, but it was great. There was several people there on Hardtails who where really fast on the blue sections.

We turned up around 10.30 and the weather was overcast and a little windy, throughout the rest of the day it got stupidly windy and wet which meant the slate became somewhat lethal under braking.

I was only really worried on the New Black route that goes off to the Right hand side, the Berms are stupidly big and steep and not bedded in at all. I couldn't seam to carry any speed into them, so ended riding into the bottom of them and then through all the red mud that's there, which then covers your tyres and leaves you gripless on the steep slate sections. The older back section to the left is ok but not as technical as the newer part.

I think it'd all fine on a dry and windless day you'd probably get into trouble somewhere as the wet slate keeps you in check and doesn't allow you to push really hard.

Manged 14 runs in total which is pretty good, hands where hurting lots by around the 10th run.

Only technical issue faced was my rental grip got water under it and came loose which meant for an interesting run ! should've bought grip glue!

I'd defo run tubeless if going as I saw the same guy like 6 times stopped on various trails fixing punctures.

Best £26 on biking I've ever spend,

Which trail is that? I rode their only XC trail at the beginning of last year and I didn't rate it. Too short, mostly uphill and with the exception of a few tiny berms there was almost nothing exciting the whole way round.

I guess they've sorted it a bit since I was last there?
