Had an epic time up Bredon Hill. Snow was pretty deep in places, came off so many times I lost count!
Bloody knackering too compared to when it's dry.

Guys I hadnt noticed when I bust my rear derailleur I've also bent the rear mech hanger :(

I cant seem to find one online anywhere? Would any of you be able to help? Frame: marin bolinas ridge

After finally getting out on my new bike today after looking at it shiney new for a couple of weeks waiting for the weather to break I can confirm something.

I've bought an assault weapon.

The frame combined with the Fox 34 gives so much confidence, at speed through baby heads, or off drops I was loving it. Coming off several years only riding XC on 29ers I didn't notice any dimished rollover ability with this setup. The slacker headangle will take some getting used to on the steeper switchback climbs. But it gives sooooo much confidence pointed downhill and allowed me to hit a couple of drops I'd always skipped on previous bikes.

I went out today with some people from a local riding club for the first time up in stavely / kentmere. Never ridden offroad in the snow and it absolutley killed me, the 2 guys i went with were on hardtails and much fitter than i was so had to keep waiting for me :(
Needless to say riding in the now was soooo hard, you couldn't see what you were going into and the resistance was making it hard to keep going on the flats, the hills i walked up. Downhills were fun but there were a couple of bits that were not rideable as they were pure ice you had no control of where you're going.

Only came off once.. when i had stopped :( went to get off the bike and my foot disapeared under the snow and i went sideways into it.
Think i should get a hardtail then i have the choice of trail bike and XC bikes.

Having a problem with my new brakes. Picked up a set of Elixir 5's today and the disc is rubbing against the caliper on the front, can't figure out how to space it so it sits a little differently, image from the bottom looking up at the brake:

Loosen that bolt, move the caliper away from the disc, tighten the bolt again. they allow small adjustments as the hole in the caliper the bolt passes through are slightly rectangular, repeat with the other bolt if needed.

Check out hopes website or youtube they've got tech videos about how to set up disc brakes, basically centre the disc in the centre of the caliper, if its a two piece caliper it's easy as it'll have casting marks, line the disc and the middle of the caliper up, adjust both separately.

Cheers mate, sorted it now :)

Gotta say, building my own bike has been proper fun, learnt some really good useful stuff along the way such as this and I really don't see me having an off the peg bike again :D

Managed to find one - for future reference are these mech hangers all generic and not frame manufacturer specific? Only reason I ask is after seeing rhysduck's link. No shops listed for over here anyway :(

@rhysduck - got your email, not ignoring hectic with exams :)
