Do you guys know if you can get the plastic ridged part shown below as a spare for Shimano shoes?

The one on my left shoe has worn, so I can no longer tighten the shoe properly. Looks like you can separate it from the shoe itself, but I can't seem to find it for sale online. Shame as they're good shoes and other than that are fine.

That should do the trick. It's an integrated headset so you can't use a press in cup as is commonly used. Only way is to use the bigger bearing but with the big ass crown.

Should fit fine as it's only the bearing faces that touch the frame that can vary from 36 to 45 degress.

Cheers boss - arrived today and seems to be spot on. Needed to hammer it on a fair bit the get it down to the bottom of the steerer but all seems to come together nicely.:D

Thanks

Aye there is a tool for it which we have but it's expensive for a home mechanic.

Glad it worked and I didn't look like a ***** :)

My LBS tool for doing that job is a scaffolding pipe

I follow suit and cut a length of 40mm plastic drain pipe to do the job at home. Works great and no chance of damaging anything because of the material.

id stick with a metal "tool" (like you say it doesnt need to be fancy, park take the pee charging £50+). the chances are plastic will deform and/or break/shatter if the race is tight on the steerer so increasing the risk of a not completely seated or wonky race.

i put the old race crown over the top of it, wrapped a cloth round it and hammer it down, worked a treat. bottom bracket, forks, handlebars and cranks etc all transfered over. However need to get some new hoses for the rear brake as it's short and also some new gear cable cover as well. The internal cabling is a bit of a nightmare.

Superstar hoses look just the job for the brakes, need to find some gear cable as well. Getting there - but slowly as wee man has come down with chicken pox which is eating into my building time!

Took my new bike for a spin today and had great fun even though it was a bit of a disaster as the cable to my front derailleur slipped and meant I could only use the middle gear on the front and the chain was rubbing.

Note to self: Stick a small pair of pliers, some allen keys and a screwdriver in my saddle bag.

Get a decent sized camelbak and you'll be able to fit loads in, i have enough tools to take my bike apart, spare pedals, mech hanger, rear deraileur, cables etc.

Don't really notice the weight much

I use a Camelbak Mule and can fit everything in it with plenty of room to spare, highly recommend it if you aren't too bothered about a little extra weight, I carry:
Screwdriver
Allen key set
Mini pump
Inner tube
Tyre levers
chain links
Phone/Keys/Wallet
Small first aid kit
Couple of energy bars if I'm going out for a day or whatever

Yeh have a spare rear derailleur, i've bent my mech and derailleur before so now carry a spare (albeit cheapo one) just incase. I've forgotton my spd shoes before so i nromally have a pair of flats in the bag just incase. 1 thing i do need to get is spare QR skewer for my back wheel as i've forgoton one of those. I do a lot of riding on my own so need to bring everything i could need :)

I have a Camelbak Octane Scuddo 3
