I was at freevolution and when Kano was on.. for literally 5mins at the start of the set he was just going on and on

"n*****, ****** n*****s"

Like that.. so is that ok because he is a rapper? no, i didint think it was, it was almost used to build up some sort of anger.. not right...

This bb thing is ridiculous, its ponsey as anything! Emily should probably have more connection from her brain to her mouth (but she is hot!) and that asian lass should be punished... Its all balls and it just shows you where the line lies when it comes to situations like this.

The word itself shouldnt be used by anyone as its from a pretty hideous background.. might as well be shouting holocaust to jews.. its stupid.

So just because YOU don't get offended this means other people won't???
Also you clearly don't understand the meaning and history of the word used so I suggest you go do some reading as comments like the one above makes you look very ignorant and foolish tbh.

No one battered an eyelid when on CBB Jermaine Jackson called someone casper, honkie or cracker can't remember which and quite rightly so, the context wasn't derogatory iirc so it's just the same as Emily

The difference is it's only racist if white on black

Just sent my complaint in to OFCOM and C4 (much good it will do :rolleyes: )

As they say two wrongs do not make a right - but perhaps this isnt a mantra that Channel 4 are aware of.

Their inability to adequately deal with the intentional and pervasive racist remarks in the previous Celebrity Big Brother (either due to gloating at their rising viewing figures or cowering at the might that is Jane Goody incorporated - all trademarks are naturally reserved) caused severe, but indisputable backlash from the public seems to have induced a knee-jerk reaction by the channel to yesterdays events where in the latest episode of Big Brother 8 depicted Emily Parr utter an ill-conceived racial slur at Charley Uchea.

I am not defending racism, but I think that the actions of the broadcaster were out of line compared to the public majority showing that it is out of touch. Indeed the question is that if Emily was removed from the Big Brother house for a racial slur, why wasnt other members who used the same slur - surely the ability of it being offensive does not lie within the colour or creed of the person who says it but ultimately the intent behind it?

Hopefully you will take this complaint seriously as I feel considering Channel 4 has a public service remit and because of this certain fees are waived (broadcasting charges) that it is time to reflect how it serves this with such lacklustre programming.

I direct you to the Communications Act of 2003, Section 265 (Public service remits of licensed providers) point 3:

(3) The public service remit for Channel 4 is the provision of a broad range of high quality and diverse programming which, in particular-
(a) demonstrates innovation, experiment and creativity in the form and content of programmes;
(b) appeals to the tastes and interests of a culturally diverse society;
(c) makes a significant contribution to meeting the need for the licensed public service channels to include programmes of an educational nature and other programmes of educative value; and
(d) exhibits a distinctive character.

Does anyone honestly think that Emily would have been kicked out, if the whole Shilpa thing didn't happen last year?

Notice how they got Shilpa on to give a really non bias opinion of it all..

She is a rich pompous *****. She has no idea about abuse and its just all attention for her.

My business partner knows two lads who have sold stories of this girl to The Sun for 10k. Society sucks on so many levels now that I have few expectations in the UK anymore. When people you know use that to make money, it must leave you with little faith.

As for the racism issue, although the context is important, it is naive to use it while in the house.
The issue for me is that ****** it is racist if a white person uses it, but not if a black person does it.

If the word is so offensive, ban the use of it in all contexts, be it musical or social as well as in cases of racial aggrevation.

If she was a black girl saying it to another black girl it would have gone by without incident and that in itself is wrong.

What a load of crap. PC gone mad yet again.

Whatever happened to sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me?

They were done, my sisters mate got 40k for a story about a BB3 housemate, which was nothing more than them having dated. Racism, they shouldve got even more than that :D

i've not read this thread at all (cba), but surely this is racist against whites?

if the black/half cast people in the house have said the word before and didn't get told off about it, surely BB are racist for using the colour of her skin to decide whether the word is acceptable or not for her :confused:

lets complain!!!

Your cant even say half cast now, it's mixed race ;)

As a white person i was disgusted at the outcome of last nights Big Brother TV show where Emily was evicted. It is my understanding that the issue is racist AGAINST white people. The mixed race people in the house have previously used such language in exactly the same context, and had no repercussion. However, when a white person said EXACTLY the same word, the producers of Big Brother judged by the colour of their (Emilys) skin to decide whether the word is acceptable or not.

I would recommend you look into the matter immediately.

These are the sort of posts I simply cannot understand? The use of the 'n' word has always been considered racist when said by a white person to someone of African appearance.

This isn't like banning Christmas lights - it was a racial remark whichever way you look at it.

The only peron who can gauge how racist the remark was is Charley, who (despite what she said later) clearly took offence at the time it was said.
