*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

I've always thought of bread as mainly carbs and reasonably high in cals? About 100 cals per slice, right? So, two slices with some jam is probably 300 cals+? I guess it depends what it's for, as in I used to have toast for breakfast (part of it) but 200 cals for a bowl of cereal seems better use than 300 for toast.

Google now have 'Health Connect', which in theory shares the data between all the different services, which seems to work quite well.

This morning I was 15st 3.9, which I've not been lower than since mid March. Looking back at last year, I did a similar thing, got low before Xmas and piled it on then! I'm a couple of weeks ahead on last year though and I feel I've gotten a better handle on the binging, so hope not to put as much on this Xmas.

@SixTwoSix sorry to hear you're having a tough time.

I now quite like how my app shows averages. Depending on what view I'm in, will show a different average (year view = monthly ave, quarterly view = weekly average).

This morning might be my last weigh-in of this year so -

It's almost scarey how easily you can put weight on (end of June, trip to Girona) and then how hard it is to bring it back off., I think in 2024 (starting with Xmas) that's what I'll try and avoid.

Yeah, I think I'd be most interested specifically in what happens on a 4 to 6 hour ride. For example, we'll stop for a coffee and brownie, but if we stay for maybe 40 or 50 minutes, I need to have a gel before we set off or I might be a little light-headed. I would love to know what's going on there.

if you have any Q, give me a shout
You understand, we're looking at a graph of my weight over the year, I went to Girona in June... for the second time (and going back next November!) so I know it reasonably well.

Yes, it was crazy hot. Most of my times were way down due to dealing with the heat. Rocacorba in 36 degrees wasn't easy!

I think in 2024 (starting with Xmas) that's what I'll try and avoid.
Hmm, with how much I ate yesterday, it's not started well.

I do carnivore. Eating mostly fatty red meat until I'm full and nothing else. I'll add stuff like chicken wings, pork belly, bacon, eggs etc but fatty red meat is the lions share.
Clearly you're in quite a different position to most of us, so I am literally asking a question, rather than commenting on your approach. Do you know how many calories this is? Are you saying this is your approach to losing weight?

I ask, because I've commented on here, if I eat until I feel like I'm full/don't need to eat more, I'm definitely going to put weight on.

If I wasn't losing weight it was either I wasn't eating enough or I was eating dairy
The way I look at it, it always comes down to energy in, energy out. There are various different ways of controlling this, eg fasting for periods of time, or for certain days, but it generally comes down to energy in, energy out. I don't think there's a magic way around that. I get that protein will fill people up, which helps them eat less cals (= energy in against energy out). If one big meal helps you not eat again, I guess that's one way! Whatever helps you beat that energy in, energy out formula.

or that the calories in calories out idea is nonsense when on carnivore.
I'd be very interested in any scientific reasoning of this. As far as I can see, and logically, it's the only thing that really counts. I can pretty much know for sure, if I start eating 3,500 cals of meat every day, I'll put weight on pretty quickly.

From a very quick look over a few websites, it's not trying to contradict 'in vs out', it's around it suppressing your hunger. So, another way to mean you'll eat fewer calories... because of 'in vs out' ;) It sounds like there are other health benefits for you, so sounds like a win/win in your case.

Lots of ads around the "milkshake" meal replacements. Are these worth trying
I think it depends on your circumstances. I've had a Huel for at least one meal a day for about 5 years now and I like them. I live alone, so a shake for a meal suits me and it is easily monitored for the number of calories consumed. Times like today and yesterday, when I've been cycling for 3 or 4 hours, a liquid lunch is quite nice. Hopefully it helps keep me hydrated too.

I wanted a proper closing/opening recording.
I did the same, after posting my end-of-year earlier in the thread, I was pleased that I did the opposite of you and I had lost a kg! 15st 5 on 1/1/24. I then also realised, that's probably the lightest I've been on 1st Jan for about 25-30 years...

My next target, as it has been for the last couple of years, is to drop weight before my cycling trip to Mallorca in March. This has given me a good headstart!
