*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

I take it all back. Being fit makes alcohol consumption a non issue!

As long as I keep boozing and running/cycling I’m good!

Nothing like a deadline... 6 weeks until skiing. Better get on with some extra back and core work!

Going to try for every day with this one. Getting back to eating normally in the new year will also help!

Back in work today so that counts as my proper starting point. 103.2kg as of this morning, and was 102.1kg yesterday so fairly confident i'll settle around 101-102kg once things settle down and become healthier over the next week.

NYE we wanted pizza from a new Italian that opened locally doing really nice looking pizzas. However what we didn't expect was that almost everything shut down. Even the bar we were in for a few drinks in the afternoon shut at 6pm. That ruled out that pizza place, another Italian which does reasonable pizzas, and virtually any other takeaway we could think of. Even Dominos was shut. I ended up in a very generic Pizza/Kebab/Burger type place and didn't realise how big the "large" would be. Probably around 14" and i ordered 3 for the 3 of us. I only managed half of mine on the night, my wife slightly less, so yesterday was spent finishing off that and having the last bottle of red wine along with some opened crisps, so not exactly the start for January you might hope for!

There are still around 8 cans of beer in the fridge and few packets of crisps left. Not sure whether to shove the beer in the garage out the way, or just slowly drink them over the weekend and start properly from Monday.

What i can say is my body 100% needs a reset with some decent food again. I don't think i massively pigged out on large quantities, but just things like having roast beef/ham in the fridge as a snack and very little fruit/veg.

I’m looking forward to a bit of a reset. Booze is out of the fridge, Christmas leftovers all finished, meals planned for the week.

The scales did not make for pretty viewing this morning. 95kg! Can’t entirely blame creatine supplementation for that one! Let’s see how things settle over the week without festive feasting.

I’ve ditched Noom and am trying MyFitnessPal again. I was only using Noom as a calorie logger recently, which somewhat defeats the object. Can’t justify the subscription cost when MFP is free and gives better info on macros.

I'm sometimes curious about the MFP premium plans, but when the free version does what i want it to, it's hard to justify in a world where i have so many other health based subscriptions (TR/Strava)

Had a nice surprise yesterday, was buying some new tracksuit bottoms for my strength training from Sports Direct, picked up a pair of Medium under-armor ones, tried them on (Medium size) and I was like, "hmm these are a bit tight for a medium, they fit fine - but I thought they'd be looser.."

Was in a rush so I bought them - got home and discovered they were actually small (not medium), and someone had them on the wrong hanger, this has made me very happy - feels like a massive psychological milestone to fit into 'small' sized clothes.

I then noticed that I'm starting to get abs, good definition in my chest and stomach - there's still plenty of work to do and i'm upping my PT sessions to 2x a week from the middle of Jan, but I'm super happy to have made this progress now.

Ok, weigh in today at 101.8kg which feels like a "correct" starting point for the year. Still hasn't been the best of weekends as we finished off the final few bits, but yesterday was the first week in a while i've been alcohol free!

Had a no booze weekend which is hopefully kickstarting a dry spell for me. Good day calorie tracking. My prepped lunches of chicken rice and broccoli are boring, but it keeps me really honest and the hot sauces at work keep them interesting. Had a protein shake this evening as was behind on calories a bit and also protein goal. That’s a win for MFP over Noom, as I might have chosen something different had I been on Noom.

Awesome work. I've now had 2 days of no booze and scarily don't remember the last time that happened. My wife was asking if i was doing dry January (ignoring the 1st through 3rd!) and i've said no. I'd rather not restrict myself and then be desperate for a drink on the 1st February

I just need to get back into a pattern of better choices. My wife has also been having a new treatment which has helped her and resulted in her being able to drink red wine again. Something she'd really missed. As such we'd started buying a couple bottles at the weekend and having half each on 2-3 nights. That compounded on top of beer in the day meant weekends were fairly alcohol heavy if not excessive. She's also said she wants to cut down as feels the regularity is having a negative impact on the benefits of her treatment so i think a big thing for me is trying to cut down the alcohol at home on a regular basis and maybe just get one or 2 bottles of a really nice red wine a month for at home. If i do that and stop buying a can every time i go to the supermarket/petrol station. My intake should drop massively, as i don't drink that much when we're out due to driving so it's only ever 1-2 beers.

Breakfast/Lunch is generally a Huel type drink for me. Breakfast is 99%, lunch is maybe 2-3 times a week, but sometimes i crave some actual food. It seems to correlate to when i've exercised first thing. If i go out at lunch on the bike then i'm usually fine.

Today was 100.8kg. I just need to make sure i'm keeping the balance between aiming to lose weight and still eat enough to fuel endurance based exercise. It's a tricky balance where it's easy to focus on calories and then feel tired and underfueled for 3 hours on the bike. The take MFP target and then eat back 50% of reportedly burned calories seems to work though.

ok round 2, Im eating low carb and if i stick to less than 1700cal a day I should loose a kg a week. 105kg aiming for 90kg. not factoring in exercise as a way to get some bonus cal burn in when i do.

Whilst my starting point is a little lower and gives me a head start. We're targeting the same end goal. Game on!

Well a mini update. Im down 8st 7lbs (53.9kg/119lbs) and got diagnosed as type 2 diabetic on 19th Dec and im staring down the barrel of potential prostate cancer too at 40 yrs oild so Christmas was a fun time...

Knocked me for a six and had a mini melt down but i've accepted it and moving on. I'm on metformin hydrochloride for the betus and im pending further blood tests for the big C.

i've full changed up my diet recently and counting calories, carbs, fibre and protein. currently im hitting 1465 Calories, 143g carbs, 33.48g Fibre and 110.72g Protein (Proteins high but as im a fat lad i believe this is fine for my weight) over the last 3 days and planning out more recipes and meal plans to build a repertoire of meal prep meals

Good luck with the health issues. You’ve made amazing progress with losing weight. Well done for changing the diet, depending on your current weight, 1465 calories seems on the low side. You’ve got to do what works for you and high protein, low carb should help with your diabetes in conjunction with weight loss.

Meal planning and prepping has been one of my key interventions. Batch cooking and eating out of the freezer isn’t always the most exciting, but it’s easier to control portions and it’s a lot quicker mid week after work.

I need to stop weighing daily! Especially following the jump over Christmas. Today was 100.7kg and whilst i expected it because of the jump (was 99.7kg before Christmas), and i've generally been under my MFP daily goal every day so far this year, it starts making you expect big drops from day to day!

Also whilst not unexpected. I've had periods in the past where calories are similar to how they've been this week without any movement. The difference this time is alcohol has been largely reduced over the week, so if i can keep this going i'd really like to see low 90's around April time. Which would put my cycling FTP around the 2.8w/kg and then i'd like to see 3w/kg towards the end of the year through power increase.

We will see. I've said this many times before
