Big Mistake...?

Thank you for your replies so far - taken all on board and very appreciative.

Who are the market leaders in GPU's? My budget is around the £150-£200 mark - Can i get anything good for this price at the moment? Looking to purchase in Feb.

If you wanna play BF3 and MW3 right now then a 560Ti would be a good card for that budget. BF3 struggles a bit with 1GB cards so try and get a 1.2GB or 2GB. When the time comes you can add a second 560Ti in SLI and get a decent boost for what will then be much cheaper

I have a 1 gig 560ti card and run at ~60fps on high settings with no struggles at all.

Sorry I was meant to say struggles on Ultra settings. High is no problem. My 560Ti gets a good frame rate on ultra but stutters every minute or so when the VRAM fills up

Thanks for the imput guys...
1am and ive just finished putting all the pieces together in the case :) Must say thumbs up to the HAF 912 Plus - Space is NOT an issue and cable tidy looks nice.
Time for bed now and then adding the SSD tomorrow when I format with Win7 Pro (64Bit)

Missing a Pic? Obviousley needs a cable tidy but still have a few things to add - just loading OS on now! :) Then for the overclock!!!

What do you guys think I can get out of overclocking this machine?

I'm getting 4.8Ghz out of my i7 2600k with a H100. And +1 for the 560TI, there darn amazing and tbh, I've never liked ATI, I had a 5770 before my 560TI and wasn't keen on the drivers.

4.5 will be easy, any higher will take some fiddling and will depend on your specific chip. I have booted my i5 2500k at 5ghz but could not complete a benchmark without crashing

Right.... Time to start looking at the overclocking guides because I do not have a clue (Noob to overclocking!)

Thanks for you comments all!

Before you start get:
Intel Burn Test
CPU-ID
Core Temp

Open CPU-I and write down the voltage, open core temp and write down the voltage here I think it will be called "VID?

To start with just go into the BIOS and find the CPU multiplier and set this to 4.5 GHZ and see if you boot. If you do then compare those numbers, the core volate in CPU-ID and also the VID in core temp, then run the burn test

report those numbers back here along with the temperatures before and after using core temp

What settings are you running at in the BIOS?

try core voltage of 1.45 and depending on motherboard find load line calibration and set this to 50% and see if you can run at 4.8.. if you can keep lowering the core voltage until you become unstable. If you cant get to 4.7 then try a voltage of 1.5 but dont run 24/7 at this voltage rather slow it down until you find a good balance between speed and voltage

I went with a z68 board, the Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 version and I was running 2500k at 4.4ghz on air, have since dropped it down to 4.2 I believe, for peace of mind and on my board its achieved by simply going to BIOS and changing the multiplier to 42....nothing else changed, just that. It really is getting simpler to OC these days. I would imagine your BIOS would be much the same.

Ive tried playing with the over clock but really do not know what I am doing - I need to read up on the basics and take it from there i think. I can even find where you would change the multiplier to 42. Complete noob!!!

My current settings before any overclock or anything? Does all look ok? Fan speeds? Temps?

Idle -

Intel Burn Test (Maximum Setting) -

fire up burn test and then do a screenshot as you are not under any load there

I actually prefer Prime95 as a test because it runs for longer, burn test in my opinion doesnt run long enough but it good for quick tests for stability while overclocking
