Hey

I have put together my new pc.. took quite a while.. and then started everything was ok... started installing xp.. took ages then, once it had also finished it came up to the welcome screen and then a window popped up and said "a problem is preventing windows from accuratly checking the licence for this computer error code - 0x800700002 and it won't let me in ... can someone please help ??

note it is not a new hard drive.. it was from my old pc.. if that is any use to anyone..

Thanks and please Help !!

Are you trying to install a OEM version of XP that has already been used on a previous PC? Cos I'm pretty sure Microsoft wont allow that, you will need a retail version of Windows for that... but I could be wrong, cos I have never been in that situation.

But if you had this copy of windows on your previous rig, that could be it?

ok then....what so i just need a new licence key.. ?

Yes, and to get get you need to purchase a new copy of windows. :)

You see, OEM windows are 'tied' to the original motherboard they were installed on, you can change anything within the system apart from the motherboard.

or he CAN try phoning microsoft, and explaining the situation, he MAY be given a new key for a cheap price, or for free

I would very much doubt he would get a new key from them. He could try, but he would probably be wasting his time.

Don't buy an OEM version though if you plan on upgrading again while still using XP. A standard version can be switched from motherboard to motherboard but the OEM will be locked to the one motherboard you install it on.

You don't need to buy a new copy of windows, you can just buy the key from MS... I know you can do it on their website, so a phonecall should be fine... they wont do it fro free of course!

So is buying the key the same price as buying a new copy of windows? Or is it cheaper? I never knew you could do this :)

Cheaper! I know if you run a illegal copy of windows (I don't btw!) that when you run the Genuine Windows Authentication process, if they detect a invalid product key you can buy a new key for a cheaper price there and then.

Not sure how much cheaper mind, but it would be instant as you get the key from them instead of waiting for new cds etc.
