Biggest Database in the UK?

Immigration LOL, that would imply the gov have a clue about how many of them there are, wishful thinking.

I would say NI, everyone has a NI number, whatever DB that is on.

I don't actually think that the NHS have one central database, they transfer a lot of info around but it's almost split into districts.

The NHS do have a central database called the NHS Strategic Tracing Service - you can find details at http://www.connectingforhealth.nhs.uk/systemsandservices/nsts

NSTS is in the process of being phased out and will be replaced by the NHS Care Records Service.

My company does some work for HM Land Registry. In their foyer they display awards for having the biggest Transactional Database in the world. This article discusses it. In 2004 it was over 18 terabytes. I know various thngs that have/are going on that will significantly increase this.

Essentially they have every version of every title deed, and every version of every Ordnance Survey street level map going back many many years. Many of the Title deeds are hi-res scanned images.

They don't hold it against 'people though.

It all depends how the data is stored, if they stored it as textual data in a correctly normalised database rather than high res scanned images where applicable then their data sets would be a lot more efficient and smaller in size.
