BIGGEST EVER "THIS WEEK ONLY" END OF MONTH SALE!

+1 to this, Fewer items but bigger discount. Maybe the odd "Mega week deal" of an item that most people need/ want (say fans) reduced to wholesale.
Imagine how many Crucial M4's you would sell if you sold them at just above wholesale.

Yeah their problem there is people that get free postage, that take a large cut into their profits.

Hi there

I think what some people fail to realise is that our regular price on say a Crucial M4 might only be at 10% margin, above our cost/wholesale.

So even if we did a mega deal on some products the discount might only be 10% as then were at cost. Selling below cost causes two very obvious issues, the first is you loose money, the second is the manufacturer gets really annoyed because they get everyone complaining to them how certain Etailor is trashing the market price on X.

So one generaly component items, big discounts (percentage wise) can be hard. Only higher margins are made on none component stuff like cables, fans, compounds, heatsinks etc. but lets face it even if we half the priced on all cables its not exactly gonna stirr up excitment and mass sales.

So we do the best we can with what we have. Were not the car industry where many items have 50-100% markup, sometimes more, a lot of the time margin levels can be single digit, especially on products such as CPU's.

True gibbo!

Thanks for clearing that up :)

Maybe then, just have the odd MEGA deal every couple of weeks then :D

*cough* £45 of the 560TI 2GB or the MSI 448 edition *cough*

:p

Je suis nae impressed. Case i want, cpu i want, ram i want hell probably even the mobo i want but got to spend my wages this month on clearing my student debt :( then buy a house! :D

Huh, strange way to justify charging way overpriced stuff. One company has been giving free delivery for years on items over £50. "Free delivery" first class shipping isnt very expensive! Especially for retailers of OCUK size.

Guys you can't compare OcUK to the likes of the big time competitors.

BUT this is what I like about OcUK - damn quick shipping.... This one must have been under an hour

Dear xxxxxxx, Your Order has been packed and is in the process of being shipped

We are in the top 3 etailers for computer hardware, number 1 for GPUs as an example and number 1 for a number of other areas so how is it you cant compare us to the "big time competitors"? Id love to know who these are, its a slow night and I could do with a chuckle.

You want a gaming GPU your at the number 1 spot in the UK.

WOW - i knew margins on tech products were cut-throat, but that is very surprising! I wonder what the actual cost of producing the chip is then? hmmm...

The costs (a lot of the time) are not in the production, its the R+D, the testing, the perfecting of the process, the testing, infrastructure, the driver creation / maintenance, and of course, the CEO's share options....

Making a GPU is a very complicated process end to end and will be highly expensive, actually making them once you have the infrastructure is probably pretty cheap.

Watching my words and ban hammer very carefully but I can't mention competitors :D

So OcUK is 3rd  that's higher than I originally thought

I carefully retract my statement and wander off with my tail between my legs

The last day of the month is Tuesday, these offers are valid till the next day (Wednesday morning about 09.00hrs approximately) so thats enough time to get an order in.

That's great if they are of course, i'd love to see them up top - but is there any factual/empirical evidence which validates this - those old time cowboys 3clips3 c0mput3rz (yeeerr ha..) could claim the same couldn't they (as a poor example of course)??

I'd love to see some real data for this...perhaps some GA stats on unique hits for the website and forum+conversion to sales etc...very interesting.

I went to buy some fans the other day.. £133.. needless to say I didn't bother. Just couldn't swallow that.

It would be nice if you offered a discount when buying more than 1-2 fans. In my case it would equal a sale rather than no sale.

That is very true mate, i don't think there are many etailers can compete with you guys when its comes down to GPU's.

that's a pretty bold statement, can you back that up with actual FACTS?

They are the boys who make the real margin, the manufacturer, well in some cases anyway. :)
