Biggest Letdown This Generation

Halo 3 - Purely thanks to the hype machine I was expecting a game written by angels. What I got was a boring sci-fi shooter with linear and repetitive levels, weak guns and a plot written by a 12-year-old sci-fi nerd. Even without the hype, Halo 3 doesn't stand out amongst this generation's other shooters.

Gears of War - I LOVE this game, if only it didn't take a casual weekend to complete. A strong example of extremely high production values meaning the budget is blown on less than ten hours of gameplay.

Biggest let down for me this generation was firing up my 360 for the first time and listening to the amount of noise it bellowed out.

Then having to get it replaced 4 or 5 times due to hardware problems.

Gamewise, Gran Turismo was very ordinary and boring and GTAIV so far hasn't engrossed me enough to give it a 2nd look.

These were games I was very much looking forward too, but failed to deliver.

While it's your opinion and I actually agree with most of it, can I ask what you mean by weak guns?

I don't know if they are weak, but the assault riffle has always sounded like a pea shooter in the halo games. Maybe that is what he means?

Burnout Paradise was a big disappointment too, even though i am playing it again. Devs shouldn't make a game free roam just for the sake of it. I still like a structure to my games. Why not add free roam as an extra and multiplayer option?

Its hard to describe but I'll try:

When I fired the assault gun it just felt weak, that rather than firing an enormous high-powered rifle I was firing a nerf gun. Part of this has to be that because of the shield mechanic there isn't clear feedback of how much damage you are doing. None of the weapons felt particularly meaty at all.

Urgh that isn't really explaining it particularly well.

I know what you mean, the guns don't sound potent or noisy enough. Your footsteps are equally audible and the dialog even louder.

I see what your getting at but the weapons are the strongest part of Halo imo. Each weapon has a unique and very distinctive look and feel to it and they are very well balanced so that almost all of them serve very useful purposes (crappy magnums aside). The laser, rockets BR and shotguns are very meaty imo, but of course your opinion is your own interpretation and you're welcome to it but my opinion is very different to yours :)

Edit: ah, if you're talking about sound/rumble feedback then I agree with you.
