oh yeah, I almost forgot my other big disappointment . The Wii.. Got it on launch day along with a copy of Zelda.. Fired it up, waved the controller around like a buffoon for a few hrs, spent a few hrs zipping around town in an attempt to find an in stock component lead in an attempt to improve the god awful pic quality. Failed miserably. Bagged the whole lot up and sold it on the bay for a tidy profit.

this was intended to be about games - please no hardware references as nobody likes a fanboy war thread...

Biggest let down would be the PS3's line up of games. I'm more of a sony gamer than anything else and I just think they dropped the ball with the PS3 so far. When home comes out, no one will care by then. Who is going to reply old PS3 games to get trophies anyway?

Wii's online is a let down.
XBOX 360's build quality is a let down.
PS3's game line up is a let down.

Yep - I'm a big Halo fan, but also think Combat Evolved is the series' high point, where the two sequels fail to emulate some parts of what made the first game so popular.

I think that sums up my feelings too. Had Halo1 been live enabled (with decent net code) I'd be as happy as a pig in ****.

I cant believe anyone read that post. It was a monster. I'm starting to think I have masocistic tendancies playing a game for several hours a night despite the amount I can find wrong with it.

Halo 3 multiplayer was a bit letdown for me, I loved Halo 2 online but 3 wasn't as good nor did it keep me playing for long.

Halo 3: 3 weeks
Halo 2: Over a year

Halo 2 had far better maps.

Krono your book sums up why I never really liked Halo3 compared to other shooters i'd played. It never did feel like I was the last hope and fighting a battle I had to win. The way you describe a mop up after a war is how it actually felt.

I never much got into the online because having not been a halo player before it just felt a little light. As I have said many times the weapons just dont feel like your shooting something powerfull.

Whilst it is a letdown that we have to pay for them. The current map pack on sale (legendary I think) has the 3 best maps on Halo3 (imo) the remake of lockout is very good its a little nerf'd (as in a bit harder to suiside on the bigger jumps) but I think that improves the flow of the level with the exception of the ramp leading from the bottom of the lift to the sniper tower. I see almost no insentive in using that to get from the lift to the sniper tower now as they removed the ledge at the top of the doorway leading into the sniper tower.

The sidewinder has taken may favorite halo level and made it even better. Bungie have had a few duff map remakes in H2 but they have more than made up for it with this one. I can literally play Sidewinder all night without any complaints about the level.

and Ghost town feels like a halo2 map (as kreeeee put it the other night).

I'm wondering what would happen if I posted my book on bungie.net. It might be worth it for a giggle.

Krono - im not going to quote your massive post - but...

great points made - i think posting it on the bungie site would cause a bit of a ruckus

however - all the points you make are valid
'opinionated' - yes, but its that kind of feedback that game developers look for to improve their games

some of the points you raise will cause the bungie.net bunch to call you a troll etc but im pretty sure that your opinions will be heard by the team - way i see it is that they are going to look for critical posts rather than praise posts

and your critique is constructive and comes from experience

post it on bungie and get back to us here with a link so we can see the reaction...

Cant be bothered to pick apart your essay so I will just make some basic observations.

Story & Gameplay - I Generally agree with all of it, but in response to when did Halo 3 take place? There is actually a 4 part comic book series that ties Halo 2&3 together, which was meant to be finished by Christmas (but they STILL havent got number 3 out of the door...)

Music - Not as good as Halo 2, but generally was decent enough

Multi-player - This is where they ruined it for me they basically took what I loved about Halo 2 and just ripped it to pieces leaving only the mediocre parts remaining. I won't go into detail since you know what I hate about it, but screw it..

- Stun when Hijacked - I mean seriously who the **** at Bungie thought up this colossal failure of an idea? Not only do you lose your vehicle, but you also lose all your shield AND you are stuned and cannot move for 3 seconds that includes not being able to turn! I mean FFS who actually sat there, experienced this and thought ***BEST IDEA EVER!!!!!***

I could understand losing the shield, but what was the need for the stun? It just makes you a sitting duck not able to do anything about your up and coming death.

- Melee - Yeah no problem with it in Halo 2 so lets FIX IT!!! It was so bad that all Veteran Halo players hate it, but the Newbies wont know any different. I mean if I hit first I should get the kill not the other guy who took a second longer to react who only gets it because he had a tiny bit more health... Its an FPS for christs sake not an RPG! I thought FPS' was meant to reward players who had more skill and quicker reactions and NOT the other guy who takes longer, I'm sorry it just breaks the one of the big parts of the game for me.

Get this even after they supposedly 'fixed' it you can no longer have Hammer VS Hammer gametypes because BOTH of you end up dying because their solution was "Hey if you both go for the Melee and you have similar health levels you both drop dead"

- Hit detection - This basically sucks huge dong, hell even sniper bullets go through peoples heads! Dont need to say much else about that so heres a picture instead.

Weapon Balance is crap aswell, but I really cannot be bothered going on about it because nobody cares :p

You can go from not being able to hit anyone, to being a killing machine depending on who has the host.

Both Madfruit and I where watching oneshot play after we had died in a match last night. Oneshot emptied nearly a whole clip 100% bang on the money bullets into a guy and not one shot registered.

I've chased a guy with an LMG and emptied a whole clip into his back with no kill, for him to turn around and pop me straight away. When I watched the kill cam he was just watching me do a mad gunfire dance before shooting me.

I personally don't think it's good enough for shooters. They should either be dedicated servers or allow me to search for games by region tp try to make it better.

Welcome to my world :) 90% of my games on CoD4 is just constant Lag even when I've got vitually full green bars.

Best way to describe it is by using Gears of War. Its like everyone has host shotgun advantage and I've got a crappy lancer - They can absorb multiple bullets from my gun, but all it takes for them to kill me is that single shot. Its so bad that everytime I watch the killcam afterwards it shows hardly any bullets leaving my gun even though I emptied a full clip.

Its not really down to Live though, but the game itself. I rarely have these problems with Halo, but then again with Halo you can sort of just get on with it since it only really effects the game if the Lag is really bad.

Krono I wouldnt have wasted my time TBH, even if Bungie crapped in a box and sold it to them they would still be grateful and beg for more.

Its because of morons like those people that no improvements ever get made to the game, all because of their constant rimming of the Bungie staff and how they can do no wrong.

My biggest dissapointment is the new smackdowns. I mean in 2007 we have a faster dvd rom drive for the 360 so why does the game take so long to load?

With regards to 2008 even though I only played the demo to me it sucked. I mean wtf did they do with the controls???
