bike touring europe

My problem with that is that all the weight is up high (all be it lightweight stuff) whereas with front and rear panniers the weight is all kept low improving your center of gravity
True, but maybe it helps it all being central? (I don't know)
I'd love to do something like that - wonder what all that gear, bags + contents would cost, for such a low weight.

well, i still no further along at work. they have mentioned two possible jobs i'm interested in, but have zero faith in them getting me in there. but we see. But i don't want this to drag on for months and then decide to go anyway.
so im going to continue to research and plan this, doing ll the overtime i can and putting money aside from that as well. and see what happens. Also got a couple of other semi ideas. So what will happen i have no idea.

but this arrived today

if anyone knows of any good online route planning software, or good sites/apps to find cheap camping spots near certain routes then that would be good. I don't mind wild camping, but i massively miss having a shower i get so salt encrusted when hiking. I really need a campsite with shower, or a nice fresh water lake to camp by.
Or any good sites on great scenery, free tourist attractions, things of the beaten track, abnormal and unusual etc.

Have a look into municipal campsites for France. A lot of villages and towns have them - never used them but have a seen a lot. Believe they are cheap but have showers. A Google turned up this book which is in French but might help plotting routes to use them

You'll find them pretty changeable in Summer just as much. There can be as much as 20 degrees temperature difference with not much elevation.

You loose about 1*C per 100m elevation gain. The summer temperatures at the valley bottom is often around 15-25*C in summer heights on 300-700m typically, the high passes go over 2000. Temperatures close to freezing and snow in the summer are pretty normal.
