In a word - Quality. Better metal & even better glass/mirror. Finish will be nicer so no chance of any sharp edges & the thread will fit nice & snugly rather than being a tad loose. The genuine ones will fit perfectly & do the job just as well where as the Cheaper options are a bit of a gamble, If you're lucky you'll get a good set that will fit right & be sound but there's a good chance they won't fit quite right & will wobble/rattle or will move when you get up into triple figures & the wind gets hold of them & finally they won't last as long & will start to look 2nd hand/worn real quick.

For 7 quid though I'd give them a go first & see what they're like.

I didn't realise how much I use my mirrors now until I was in my mates car at the weekend.

First long drive I've been in a car for since learning to ride and every time he went to change lanes I was checking his far side wing mirror and his center console automatically because that's where my mirror is on the bike.

Until my bike falls over and I'm found sat next to it crying pointing at the scratch on my hundreds of pounds worth of mirrors :p

At the minute the only thing I worry about if I come off or the bike gets knocked over is the painted body work apart from that everything else is relatively easy/low cost to replace.

What's up with stock mirrors? I've never changed mirrors on a bike

Atleast stock mirrors work

Mine work, at least after fitting some extenders and I could still do with extending them a little more to be honest but they look gash and the front end of the SV is already not exactly pretty.

My bar end mirrors offer way better visibility.

I do too much filtering to have bar end mirrors, I'll take my Yi on Friday when I'm in London... you'll see what I mean. :p The wider handlebars already make it harder to filter, sometimes I get stuck as I would end up touching either mirror if I carried on.

@wazza300, have you seen SV's stock mirrors? They look like someone stole some from a HD and put them on the SV...

You got to learn to dip the bars. RJ doesn't seem to struggle with wide bars :p

tbh the stock mirrors on the Grom are awesome for functionality, they just look horrible

no after market Grom mirrors are as good (for seeing behind you)
