Full face helmets are the best in protection. Flip up helmets are not bad by any means and perhaps will be convenient for your glasses. They are slightly heavier than full face ones.

If one has a crash with the helmet jaw flipped up, then safety area compromised is about 25%.

I had a feeling what the things you mentioned

If you have something like a branch of Sportsbikeshop near you go there, they'll have a large selection and will hopefully give you some decent advice.

Sportsbikeshop offer free returns as well, I've had a couple of grands worth of various boots sat in my house in the past trying to find something to fit my wide feet and returned it all within a couple of months with out issues.

This is the correct answer. Order tons, see what fits best and return the rest. These logistics and restocking costs will likely be factored in to their business model so I wouldn't worry too much about it, provided you're not having pallets of stuff turn up.

For textiles, I have a Dainese Laguna Seca and I absolutely love it. It's too hot on hot days, but not prohibitively so. It has a removable woolly liner, zips that can be opened and closed for ventilation, good pockets, reflective strips and it's comfy.

Oh I've also got a D3O back protector in it.

Do be careful when ordering as there are tons of fake goods around, only buy from reputable sellers.

This is the way if you don't have a local. SBS are absolutely amazing. Their customer service and returns are top notch - especially for mass fitting endeavours and returns.

It finally happened today...

Was on my way back after getting the Bird new brake pads all around and brake fluid changed. Stopped for fuel and as I was leaving the Fuel station noticed a bunch of kids walking past.

They all noticed me and the bike, but you know the one, the one that turns back and has his eyes lit up in expectation. I gave a little blip to the throttle "vroooommm" and I get an enthusiastic response back "yeahhhh!!".

Oh this didn't end there. They were going the same way on the pavement as I was on the road. As I approached the kid turns back again. Clutch in and a blip of the throttle again. As a bonus I filtered past some traffic rather briskly (I know I shouldn't have been little faster and louder). Buuttttt my ears heard an even louder "Yeeeaahhhh!!!" from behind. Did an aplogetic hand gesture to the cars who had to endure this "stupid biker thing".

I am happy that I made that little kids day and hopefully ignited the inner biker in him. It made my day even better too. :D

I was thinking of head shape, that helmets would cater to different head shapes? have any helmet brands offer an app which can scan your head front/back/sides and give recommendation.

It wouldn't have to measure in cm, just get the shape, then you can then choose specific model and choose the sizing

Although should be able to work out size, by having something of a known reference if you balance an item ontop of your head, like sugar cube or something.

Different brands tend to cater to different head shapes. If you Google you'll find a list somewhere.

Each manufacturer has a slightly different fit and it varies person to person. HJC helmets fit me like a glove. Others not so much. It's best to just try lots of different helmets of the right size. Your measurement will give you an indicator of S/M/L/etc but that's where it ends.

Helmet brands will make a couple of shells and stick different amounts of packing in them for your dome, so even if one brand fits well, the same brand might not with a different lid.

Also, stop ******* about and go to a shop, or just order a few from Sportsbikeshop and return the ones you don't want.

This is very true. When I was trying helmets at SBS, my current lid HJC RPHA 70 Carbon fitted perfect, however the newer 71 Carbon felt very uncomfortable.

You can see it here. One of these lids is a small, the other is XXL. The actual plastic lids are exactly the same size, but you can very clearly see that the one of the left has a ton more packing in it.

I had an RPHA 70 Carbon and the resin literally melted on it after a year! Got a full refund as they'd been discontinued by then. I also had the same experience with the 71, but the RPHA 11 fits my head even better than the 70 did if you haven't tried one.

I prefer to go with rugby ball. Yes, I have a hilariously huge melon on my shoulders. My current daily is like XXXL or something stupid, think it's the largest size they do :D
Do you always check if your head fits before filtering?:D

That is one huge melon. You know what they say about guys with big heads, don't you... Big helmets.

I didn't try many, I scooped it last year for half price in the clearance of ECE 22.05.
What was your usage like for the resin to melt? I ride occasionally as in once in 2-3 weeks and in fair weather.
