Anyone test rode an aprilia shiver 750?

I used to own one - had a 2011 from new for a couple of years before trading up to my Aprilia Caponord. I did my first Euro trip on the Shiver. It was a fun bike but I soon found it to be underpowered - it doesn't feel like 95 bhp, rather like 80 - 85. I felt that the torque of the v twin really didn't make up for the slightly sluggish feel. Range is pretty pants if you're touring but on the plus side it is nice and stable to throw around with confidence. I scraped the pegs a couple of times and I've never done that on any other bike.

Switch gear is ok but there are no toys on this bike apart from some basic trip computers and engine mode mapping on the fly - the latter is irrelevant because you'll permanently have it in the most aggressive setting after a week.

They don't hold their value well, so you should be able to find one pretty cheap. However, speaking as a now two time Aprilia owner you need to be prepared for servicing costs (not quite on a Ducati level but not far off) and accept that should any part need replacing it normally needs to be ordered from the factory in Italy who have a very laid back approach to customer service. Parts can take weeks, if not months.

All the RST stuff comes with a full length zip, that's why I went for them as they're not crazy expensive and meant I could do the odd track day.

You won't be disappointed they've also go their Dainese shop next door if you want to check out all the expensive stuff although you may end up in there longer than planned once you start chatting to the staff :D

Used the SBS voucher gave me for all there hassle they caused and got some motul 5000 which is on offer. K&n oil filter and some engine oil cleaner.

Ever since I took my bike for the valve adjustment, when the bike is cold and go into first, it was cut out. But if you rev and go into first it's fine, so clutch plates are sticking it looks like. It's fine once warm. Never did this until I took it to them so hopefully this sorts it.

Anyone ever used any Outlast kit? Looks quite interesting in terms of actively keeping you cool or warm depending on the temperature.

Does reading the road and becoming faster comes with experience or should you do a trackday/training to improve?

Yesterday, I notice that I can ride much faster following than when I ride solo. Apart from the open bends, those aren't a problem. Its just the blind corners that I always find slowing down way too much on. I didn't take some corners as quickly as those guys did, that guy on the S1000R went into some of the corners whilst sliding. It looked good and seemed effective as he went around the bend quicker than if he were to take it normally.

BTW This made my day - https://www.facebook.com/cabromotor/videos/297101543976098/ :p

You'll probably find what you're actually doing when riding with others is getting caught up and throwing caution to the wind a bit rather than actually being a better rider, but yes reading the road and being able to carry higher speed on your own can definitely come from just general road experience rather than needing to get out on a track.

Some people are idiots and take blind corners way too fast. If you just blindly follow them at the same speed hoping there's nothing in the road then you're no better than they are.

I am guilty of this sometimes on group rides.

I was mostly following Z750, S1000R and GSXR when they were leading went ahead all the time. They did wait up for me and the guy on the Z750, they did say on every stop just take it at your own pace, we'll wait for you. :)

I see this often usually a lad who has been riding for a year or 2 and thinks he's quick er most are not just lemming, when following a group you should always have a plan B for when the **** hit's the fan.

Riding high speed on a blind bend is just ridiculous.

I'm slow, I was riding my own pace hence why they constantly shot of to the distance. :p I was following the Z750 as he said, he'll take it easy. I did say though, I'll probably hold you back, so if you want to shot off just tell me the location or the route you'll be going.

I want to improve my judgement of the road, any tips are welcome. :)

Passed my mod 1 this morning ;) The temperature was high though, I was soaked with sweat when I got home! Apart from that it all went well.

I have one more lesson on Saturday to hopefully iron out any creases and get me ready for my test and then all being well I should be booked in for my mod 2!

Nerve racking for some reason lol It's odd how nervous I was when normally I am quite a laid back person and relaxed about everything :p Crazy what nerves can do.

Congrats!

I had similar weather although not quite so warm for my tests last year and it definitely doesn't help with the nervous sweating :D

Congrats!

It was nearly 30c when I did mine, when I got back home. Quick shower, 1h nap and went out on my bike.

You got a bike yet? :)
