The car I mentioned is a remapped Saab 9-3 with a turbo, from a rolling start it close to SV650 performance. So nothing to complain about. :p

Where did I say its a "fast car"? There's no point in having anything powerful here, crappy little roads with bad surface. Even if you had the power, you wouldn't be able to use it. So people are ok with Fiestas ST on finance. :) Even if you wanted to hoon on the motorway, you can't because there's a big problem with lane hogging and lorries overttaking one another...

I remember, when I rented out an X5 in Poland and had cruise control set to 200-220km/h. I sat on the fastest lane most of the time, a guy undertook me. I can't tell what car it was, but think it was a C63 AMG, that woke me up! Shortly after, I was in the middle lane, 2 bikes went flying past me. :D

On Thursday afternoon when i finish work at 4pm, im going home, packing my rucksack and going exploring for 3 days, staying in hotels Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, before making my way home Sunday afternoon.

No idea where I'm going yet, whether to go North or South, I'll decide Thursday when I'm packing my bag.

As long, as warming up the bike to a safe temperature before riding away. :)

Why would you idle a bike to warm it up? That's useless as some components heat up while others don't, so you still have to ride it gently for a bit anyway.

Just start it up and go immediately, just take it easy for the first few minutes.

Was more a comment on metrics used to describe fast, ie) I don’t see a fat Vectra turbo with a remap keeping up with an SV650 at... Anything. Bung a big turbo and some cams and some head work at it and OK, but unless it’s a Turbo X it ain’t happening

Are you drunk? :p

Hmm. I like this sort of thinking. I need to do more of that!

A few times I took my dads car on a weekend to work instead of the bike, it was ready to go much quicker than my bike. Not to mention, it was nice to just hop in and hop out in the office. No runny nose or all the gear to take off. Just coat on hanger and on my way to get a coffee. :D

Why are you still here if you hate bikes so much now? :p I do 40miles a day commuting through 1 of the busiest cities in the UK, a bike is infinitely quicker and not to mention infinitely more fun. In that time I can't remember having a major close call, no-one's tried to kill me like you say, more importantly I've not tried to kill myself either with the way I ride.

Regarding driving bike over to Europe to avoid long motorway jaunts. I heard of these from a facebook group http://www.bikeshuttle.co.uk/ Might be a better option. I personally don't mind motorways

With bike shuttle you're basically paying a couple of hundred quid for the convenience - it's good if you live in the Midlands/north but I'd have to ride 2 hours north of here just to get to them! :p

One advantage of being 30 miles from the tunnel is that Switzerland to home or vice versa is doable in a day, I did it yesterday :D

780km plus the 30 miles in the UK, 2 fuel stops and 2 toll booths (+ 2 tickets) totalling €30, left Switzerland at 9:30am, was at the tunnel by 6:30pm.

I'd happily do the trip on the tuono with a few more petrol stops - rucksack and a tank bag, hotel in Andermatt and then ride the passes for a week :D

I need to get a car licence for this job but I can't ever see myself commuting in one unless I'm desperate. In the last 2 days alone being on a bike has come into it's own with all the commuter traffic crawling up the motorway.

Europe's pointless in a super car anyway as all the best roads are too narrow.

You need a bike or nothing wider than an MX-5.

Trawling up and down the Cote d'Azur in a Micra doesn't have the same effect as a drop top Bentley (which there was about 99,000 of in St Tropaz)

Think I got the 'ol K11 up on 3 at some points. Still lame though, seeing people waft by in everything from pristine Renault 17 convertibles to Harley Road Kings...

That is very far away from the best roads though ;)

Oh of course, but there are many situations when even the biggest and gaudiest car would have been better than the Micra!

Except of course some **** SUV thing like the damn ASX. How I loathe it...
