Bing - a new way to search

Google is full of adverts now which are starting to annoy me. And when you search for say a computer hardware item you get more and more of those stupid price / review comparison websites which really aren't that helpful, (imo).

currently, ms want users to use msn.com as a search engine

look how horrible and bloated it is

http://www.msn.com/

google is here to stay, when you don't know something you 'google it', you no longer 'look it up on the internetsweb'

Ahh my eyes, it's like how search engines used to be before google came along.

They've also got

http://www.live.com/

as well haven't they. Though I don't like the page design, I keep thinking the page hasn't finished loading yet.

Edit // Wiki informs me that something called Baidu.com is the most popular search engine in China, more so than google.

Why are you comparing Google's search page to msn.com? msn.com is a portal site, not a search engine. You'd do better to compare www.live.com to www.google.com

ugh the live search is terrible. it never finds the right site when google does it on the first try:/

msn.com is a portal that happens to have a search link on it. www.live.co.uk is the most direct link to the current search engine and has no more on the page really than Google.com

Personally I'm getting fed up with all the sponsored links, adverts and irrelevant answers I get from google at the moment. Search for a review on a new TV, piece of tech or pratically any consumer item for example and you're lucky if an actual review from a forum or major site comes up on page 3 after two pages of links to price comparrison sites and online stores.

Google needs decent competiton, it's getting fat and lazy on advertising revenue.

Has anyone given this thing a go?

I decided to have a look last night and it seems quite good. I particularly like the video search feature where you can play the video (with sound!) by just hovering your mouse over the video. It takes about half a second to load before it plays, which is quite impressive.

Search results are decent too.

I like the preview function it reminds me of vista/windows 7 aero preview function, works well IMO.

I notice http://www.live.co.uk now reverts you to http://www.bing.com

and apprantly the image search and preview function is being used as a way to get around firewalls in the full featured US version, lol! why is it full featured in america and not in the UK maybe where not as important to ms as consumers....

there loss

Problem with google is business model. Let's just say you are looking for a part for your old washing machine - let's say it's a 15 year old Bosch 37 series. You type in, let's make something up - Bosch WMF - into google and to your surprise - there is 10,100 hits in UK serving you with pages about your washing machine. Oh.. wait... there is actually not a single page about washing machine parts. All those 10,000 hits are spam - shoppingreviews, dooyous, nextags, ciaos, recommendedbuys etc etc etc.
Then you realise - wait - we just made it up, there is no machine of any kind called Bosch WMF. There is just no such thing as Bosch WMF. So why did I get 10,100 hits about something that doesn't exist? It's because there is now a whole industry, working hard and working after hours, on finding new ways and new optimizations to better, quicker, faster obliterate all of your searches, including all the searches that should have ended with googlewhacks and "no pages found" and turn them into one big, endless, streaming, pile of spam crap across more pages than humanly possible to check. The valued google customers getting tips on "optimizing" and spending shareholder cash "engines" and "code integrations" and "SDK's" to serve you with nothing. There is just nothing they have to offer. Not a single human review, not a single valid commercial pointer. They will spam about stuff that doesn't exist. That never existed. Stuff they can't sell. Stuff they couldn't invent. Hit is a hit. What used to be an engine to search for things, is an engine paid to lead you nowhere.
