Hello folks.

I have recently bought a Samsung 960 EVO M.2 SSD for my build. Very easy to setup and install. The magician software has mirrored Windows 10 and all of my files and all would appear to be working well within windows itself as an additional drive. I cant seem to get the BIOS to pick the drive up however so I can start using it as my main bootable drive. Is there anything I need to so within the BIOS to say that the drive is there?

Motherboard is an ASUS X99-A

Cheers in advance.

i had the same issue but with a different board, I could see the M.2 in Windows but not in BIOS, did a BIOS update and it worked straight away.

Check the manual to see which sata ports are affected by the M.2. Disconnect the other sata drivers to see if the M.2 drive is visible.

I had this issue today but mine was cos I screwed up and ordered an m2 sata drive and not a pci e one :(

Eh? Not quite sure I understand you.

An M.2 drive fits in an M.2 socket, sata connects to a sata port and PCI-e fits in a PCI-e slot.

I have no idea myself lol. It fit in fine yet didn't get recognised by my motherboard. Then when I've read up (I am new to this m2 thing) I got the impression I bought the wrong drive.

Got an Asus x99 sabertooth.

It doesn't recognise
Crucial MX300 525GB M.2 (2280) Internal Solid State Drive

So maybe Samsung 960 EVO M.2-2280 500GB PCI Express 3.0 x4 NVMe Solid State Drive works?

That should see a 2280 M.2 drive.

1. Have you updated the BIOS?
2. Have you checked which Sata ports are used on the same channel as the M.2, move your Sata devices if necessary to other ports.

Simply put:
M.2 typically supports two different types. SATA and PCIE

Sata is just that, it's considered a SATA SSD just like a regular SSD and you will get the same kind of speeds.

PCIE is an entirely different animal, this is the super quick drive and can consume between 2 and 4 PCIE lanes depending on your motherboard and CPU.

Some boards have an m.2 slot which support both SATA and PCIE, Some only accept SATA and some only accept PCIE.

What motherboard do you have? For example my Z270 Supercariier has 3x m.2 slots. All of them are PCIE and SATA.
I also have an Asus ROG STRIX Z270i ITX board, this has 2x m.2 slots. One of them is PCIE only (The one on the back) and th one on the front is PCIE and SATA, so in this I have a crucial mx 300 1TB SATA ssd in the front slot and a Samsung 960 Pro in the back.

Bios is up to date but I never shuffled my drives. I just figured it would show up somewhere in the list. Initially when I fitted it I couldn't get the PC to wake up and I had to reset bios.
