Just received my 1tb Black WD from OCUK, great service as usual. However, I cannot for the life of me get the BIOS to see it.

I am running a 4800+ with asus a8N-sli (BIOS 1805), have tried SATA1-4 ports, tried using the onboard Silicon Controller SATA 1-4 ports, have turned on SATA2 DMA transfer in BIOS but to no avail.

I have also tried the drive on my ASUS p5K system (as in sig) but not detected in the BIOS...have I received a DOA drive??

Any ideas plz?

It's not looking promising :/

I'm guessing you've tried this, as you've been very thorough so far, but as it's not listed above i'll suggest it:

Have you tried a different SATA cable - or even a few as the drive connection may be a bit fussy?

Perhaps look at the SATA connection on the drive and see if it has any residue on it from post production that could hinder the cable from making proper contact.

Tried a cable used with my other drive, no luck. Tried jumpers 5-6 to put it in 150 sata 1 mode, no luck. Will check for residue now, if not it's going back :-(

The drive has been received by OCUK today, already on their test bed. Really hoping the drive is at fault, can't think of any other reason why it wouldn't show up in the BIOS. Its the first time in 20 years of computer building a component has been DOA - wonder if its common for HDDs and I have just been lucky?

EDIT - Testing the HDD could take 5-7 days, are u kidding me!

I think this is a standard e-mail reply that anticipates that they may have a backlog - or a different type off HDD problem that would require further testing.

With your particular problem i think once it's been powered up you'll have your replacement - it's just a matter of when they get the time to test it.
