BIOS Update Failed...PC won't start

Try the 10.3 bios for the z68a-g45 as that is the last one that extracts to individual files.

The file in the zip you want is E7750IMS.A30

Just to clarify, what is the exact model of your motherboard? If it is definitely the one in your last link http://www.msi.com/support/mb/Z68AG45_G3.html#down-bios use the 11.2, file name is E7750IMS.B20

Still nothing on screen when i use that file :(

I just bought these:

Product Name Price Qty Line Total
Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £166.66 1 £166.66
Asus Z97-A Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £98.29 1 £98.29
Arctic Cooling MX-2 Thermal Compound (4g) £5.82 1 £5.82

Are these compatible with each other?

I've checked and i believe they are, but would like someone else to confirm.

Let me know if you think i've made a good choice!

Current mobo is Z68 G45 G3...i believe they are both ATX motherboards.

Is that right?

Thanks!

Yes, that processor will run out of the box on that board. Z97 is designed for the Devil's Canyon processors. MX-2 is a good thermal paste and works very well.

If you plan on OCing, it may need a BIOS flash. It sounds stupid, but some boards are still coming with the early BIOSes. Of course, do it using a memory stick from the BIOS not Windows.

Edit: Your current board is ATX, so's this one. Any ATX/mATX board will fit in your case.

Stulid tested a lot of thermal pastes...

Your mobo and cpu choice are fine. Based on what I've heard Asus's customer support is poor though they do make good stuff.

Shame you couldn't get the old motherboard to flash again, but worth a try as bad flashes only semi brick things sometimes :)

Better luck with the new board & cpu ;)

Be very careful with those pins in the CPU socket. Its probably best to look on Youtube to see an installation.

Its still worth seeing if your old motherboard can be fixed.

I'll call MSI up on Monday and see what they can do. If it's worth it, I'll get it repaired and put it on eBay.

I just need to align them correctly right?

Thanks!

I've already tried this though, but nothing ever appears on screen.

Does anyone have any tips for installing a new mono/CPU. I've never done this before.

Do you have any essential tips?

It's like lego for grownups :) If it fit's it sits don't try to force it. And align the yellow triangles.... i trust you have some thermal paste surplus?

They won't do anything. Their crap software has been bricking boards when flashing the bios (no matter what method you use) for years and they seem incapable or unwilling to fix things. MSI is a brand to be avoided when it comes to motherboards as far as I am concerned.

What is the proper method for flashing in an Asus board? Are they more reliable?

Extremely reliable. The easiest way on Asus boards is download the latest bios to a usb stick and use the EZ-Flash tool in the bios. Some boards (mine has this) have usb flashback were you can flash the board without even having a cpu installed (makes flashing easy if the board needs a update to recognise the cpu). Same as before but you stick the usb stick into the dedicated slot at the rear of the board and press the button for 3 secs until the led starts flashing. Once the led stops it's all done.

Gigabyte also have a excellent tool (Q-Flash) built in to their bios for flashing. I have never had a bios flash go wrong in a Asus or Gigabyte board.
