and which is best way to update it without loosing my board

ive been doing a lot of reading about overclocking my e6600 and altho my board only claims to support 800mhz ram on the website for my board it says it will support kingston hyper x pc2-8500 with the latest bios which id like to buy

In that case do it, but its a bit silly to o for no reason.

I came in here to specifically say don't do it from within windows!

If you're going to do it then use the Asus EZ Flash 2 utility from within the BIOS.

Basically copy the new BIOS file to a USB memory stick formatted to FAT32.

Start the PC with the memory stick inserted.

Run the utility and it will update the BIOS.

See page 4-5 of the user manual.

i want loose my board will i ?

You're very unlikely to lose your motherboard unless something like a power cut happens in the middle of the process.

Flashing the BIOS will reset everything back to default so you'll need to re-make any changes you made before.

The BIOS file you've downloaded shouldn't need renaming.

Is the memory stick formatted to FAT32?

Did you insert the memory stick before starting the PC?

C: will be your sytem drive. Do you have a floppy disk drive which will be a:?

Do you have another memory stick you can try?

yes formatted to fat32 ive tryed 2 differnt ones and tryed booting with it left in and removing and reinsert when ez screen up

no floppy

yes tryed that still nothing will renaming the rom corrupt it as there a lot comments around google saying it shouldnt be any more that 8 characters

I see what you mean.

They have given it rather a long name "P5B-ASUS-Deluxe-1238.ROM".

Just rename it to something like 1238.ROM and try it then.
