bios update help

Try a different USB port (use one of the ones on the motherboard I/O at the rear of your case).

It probably won't work but you could try copying the file to the root of your C drive and see if it will pick it up from there.

In the "Advanced" section of the BIOS go into "USB Configuration" and try setting "Legacy USB Support" to Auto.

If that doesn't work try setting it to Enabled.

Don't forget to save the changes and restart when you've changed a setting.

tryed that no joy

got 2 thing in bios im not sure what they are/mean

bios ehci hands off (enabled)
addonr on display mode (ENABLED)

they mean anything to you ?

Neither of those is relevant.

Just on the off chance try formatting the memory stick to NTFS instead of FAT32 and see if it does anything.

I flashed my bios yesterday, (diff board but still an asus) used a usb 3.0 stick formatted in NTFS and it picked up fine.

i have 1238 but its dated 09/30/2008 <<< is that the date of bios or date it was last updated. very confusing cause same (1238) but different dates

Don't forget to change back from IDE to AHCI in BIOS if windows was installed with that setting. I updated mine earlier this afternoon using Gigabytes @BIOS software and thought i'd ****'d things up for a few hours until it eventually occured to me. Left my laptop at work so couldn't even use the net to check how to fix lol.

Needless to say i had a red face when i realised what a silly oversight it was.

hi just checked bios ( not changed anything yet)

i have the following option

on board device config > jmicro controller mode ( ide)
i have option to change to raid or ahci

what shall i do

It's only applicable after updating/resetting the BIOS. If you don't know whether to change it to RAID then you likely can ignore that. IDE or AHCI depends on which setting windows was installed as, it should be AHCI but either way windows will blue screen and reboot the PC then loops doing that if it's wrong. Leave it as IDE, boot up and if it blue screens change to AHCI.

I only mentioned it as it was stupid a hairpuller for me this afternoon.
