Bioshock 2 - First Review

What's the release date for the game does anyone know?

6 February.

Also if anyone want some more info on the related back story have a look at There's Something in the Sea. A site detailing the life of Mark Meltzer, a bloke who's daughter got kidnapped and he is searching for her. TBH the site is an ongoing history and looking at it now could be overwhelming. I have been following it for almost a year now and I have never seen such attention to detail in what is essentially advertising for a game.

I still haven't completed the first, however, that high score is making me think I probably will.

However, some kind chap was kind enough to post the ending on here so I know what happens anyhow.

Pre-ordered ages ago cannot wait regardless of reviews. I know this game will rock like Bioshock did but also be similar in many ways like most modern sequels.

Not a bad thing as the Rapture environment was awesome :D

Tbh i didn't think much of the first one, i got bored after a couple of hours.
i've attempted to play it again since but around the same time it just gets horribly repetitive

I'm like this with most games.
Friends raved about it and told me I should force myself to play it on. Glad I did, the atmosphere in some levels was great, for example in Fort Frolic, that was just superb.

Will not buy BS2 though until it's a cheap steam weekend deal like the original. I mean in the origi got bored by the last level, I'll probs end up playing a bit on my mates ps3 or so ( I'm sure they'll buy it) then after a year buy it on steam for a fiver or so.

I had that same problem, never went back to it on the PC, but then I tried the PS3 demo when it came out and found that playing on a pad was far more intuitive and I'm currently playing through it on PS3 and really enjoying it.
I'm not suggesting it's better than mouse control, but juggling between plasmids and guns is much more comfortable on a pad.

Looking forward to this one and 90% is a good score. I'm hoping for more or less the same as the first one but just an updated story and bug fixes

My problem with it, was it had a fantastic story, great atmosphere and a great premise...

...let down by endlessly repetative enemies, dumbed down fight mechanics (die, respawn with no penalty, carry on), imbalanced powers and no real skill choices as you could pretty much level up on everything.

It was like an M&M but with poo instead of a peanut inside. Fantastic expectations, looked great, initially enjoyable - but then after a while, you chewed past the nice exterior to discover the nastyness that lay beneath.

I'm not holding my breath for this one.

What limited ammo thing?

He probably means the small amount of ammo you can carry.

I have a bigger annoyance, '' your wallet is full'' @ 500 dollars. WTF , how can a wallet be full at just 500 dollars, you could easily fit thousands in most wallets, even in smaller cashnotes. I mean wtf, you can carry 50 brass tubes or 80 jerry cans of kerosene or whatever junk stuff but you can only carry 500 dollars  ?

Even worse is the fact that the wallet counter has four digits, what's that all about?

Wow, it really has been a long time since I played, I don't remember anything about a limited ammo supply and can't even recall there being money in the game :p

I got bored with the first one going to the "Fish factory". Tried to play it again recently inline for 2 and got bored around the same point. Too much "wandering" for my liking. :p
Still would like to finish it so I don't get the feeling I am missing a great game/story? :)

The Death mechanic was fine. It just required discipline. Whenever you die, load your last save. Can honestly say I never used the respawn things through my entire playthrough. And while there were admittedly few types of enemy, I can't say I found them that repetitive. they looked varied enough and made sense given the context. A greater varitety of plasmid-wielding opponents may have been better though.
